ok guys i got a problem

well not me (i own a 99 black on black w/ many mods) my mother has a stock 2001 se black on black auto and today on her way home from work she all of a sudden heard her exhaust change from completely quiet to souuding like she installed a y-pipe and a greddy catback im serious. i figure its a leak or gap in the exhaust but then thought it may be the catalytic converter because the exhaust smelled like rotten eggs. it has no low end now and increased top end but it feels sluggish in the takeoff my mother always needs her car runnin top notch so i need to know what it is before she gets robbed at the stealership. thanks for the guys with the knowledge

didi you check underneath the car? it could be a ehxaust leak or a hole in the muffler or some where in your pipe. or mayeb you probably just need a new cat.
wait... you said that already.. just chceck underneath the car.

my best bet is to take it to a muffler shop. if you cant pinpoint it. i know itll cost money, but you dont want to buy the cat, and then have the problem again. i know that the fart smell is from a old cat, but making the fart sound has to be a leak or a hole, but not from an old cat. did you drive that car yet? how loud is it?

If it is as loud as you say, it should be simple to get an idea of where it is coming from. I dont think your cat is plugged because that shouldnt cause excessive noise. I think that a pipe just broke. That would make it loud.

Good luck

try and get underneath the car and check the exhaust closely, you can probably pin point it better or maybe run the car and listen closely to where the sound is originating from...
