Definitive Install How-To for Spark Plugs and Ignition Coils

Hi folks. I've been dormant for a while, but I just finished doing an ignition coil and spark plug change on my 2002 Maxima, and I documented the whole process. I have seen a few how-tos on this before, but I think I have created the "definitive" edition with lots of detail and pics. Hopefully, this will help someone else.

Check it out on my web site at http://www.greghome.com

Hey, thanks for the kind words. It actually is not all that bad of a job if you do your homework and have patience. And it doesn't even require a buddy to help you - it is a one man job. But having company for moral support, and for someone to laugh at you, is never a bad idea.

that is a great write-up indeed!! i can actually follow it, even though i have absolutely no experiance under the hood (besides simple oil changes, etc.) I was a bit doubtful at first to try this, but when the time comes, i will

I'm saying it is a GREAT write up.. don't misunderstand me... what I was trying to say is.... Just to replace the Spark plugs, you will have to remove a lot of stuff just for that.

Thanks for the props. I hadn't even thought about this being useful for the Altima guys, but of course it would apply!

Glad you like the writeup. It took me longer to do the web page than it did to do the plug install!

hey dude thats pretty good--and the more you do the faster you get--but I work at Nissan so I do alright--yea you never want to use the same gasket--you can get away with it on the metal exhaust gaskets--not the crush gaskets though.
But thats better than the service manuel

Very nice pictures and write-up!!! I've been thinking about changing them, but without this exellent write-up I was reluctant to tackle it. Thanks and giving me some good info a few years ago that helped me decide to buy my max.

Yup, dug up an old thread. The power of search!
On your write-up it doesn't mention anything about using Silicone when replacing the coils. Is this neccessary and where do you apply the silicone?

I was thinking about replacing my plugs pretty soon even though my car only has 56k miles. Not after reading that! They can wait till 100k. Excellent writeup though and one day in the future it will help me a lot.

If you have a decent drill you can go to sears (MAYBE harbor freight) and buy some drill outs. Or maybe call a local shop and see how much they would charge you to remove it. They p robably will charge you 1 to 1.5 hours.
ok hijack off.
