Help with paint Chipping

I appreciate this forum very much. I have read some of the posts concerning paint chipping on Maximas. I owned a super black 98 SE that had chips in the paint when I bought it. I thought this was a flaw my car had exclusively. Then, I joined this forum and read about paint chips, etc. I just purchased a grey lustre 2001 SE AE. I have driven it twice ... twice! I have 300 miles on it, and I rinsed the car this morning to find seven small chips on the hood of the car ... mainly the very front above the grill and around the headlights. How can this happen? How can I prevent this from happening? Does wax or teflon help? How can I repair these chips? I am not so upset about the chipping if it is a natural thing for cars to do, but you know you hate to ask your neighbor if his paint chips when you are the one who just bought the NEW car.
Thanks for your time and suggestions.
