What are the average life span of Aftermarket spring and struts?

i am in the market to buy new spring and struts to improve handling and looks.

i already checked housecor's for the combo that i want.

i decided H&R + GR2 or tokico HP.

Now reason i am asking lifespan (and yes i did search, but no good results, maybe i didn't search good enough? yes i am a noob) is because i might want to buy this combo used from the classifieds, since they tend to pop up often in there.

i'm wondering how good they would be at around 15k miles...

i know it all depends on what kind of abuse they been thru, but i just want to have a general idea.

If they only last around 20k miles, i might as well just buy everything new.

Hard to say, even the best estimates would be a wild guess.

Springs don't wear out; they may sag a little. As for the struts, if the seller has had them on pretty smooth roads then they may be worth another 15k-20k miles on your Max(your profile says you're from NYC so I'm assuming that you'll be driving over some rough roads......)

springs should last as long as you own your car. Struts, hard to say because varies on road conditions, temp, etc. I had my blues for about 2 years (30k miles) and they are still holding up just fine. Bad roads around here too.

Tokico Illuminas have a lifetime warantee even for wear. As long as your drop isn't below 1.5".

hmmm, i was thinking illuminas, but those bastards are like 400 bucks......

i'm trying to spend around 250-300 for the spring/struts and another 150 for installation.

trying to stay under 500 for the whole thing installed.

i spent way too much on cosmetics and audio/video......

20k miles? that would suck cause theoritically you would need a new suspension in less than a year of driving?

i'm sure they'll last well past 70k miles

if you have some free time, you can install them yourself.

ahhhh, free time....not on me.

i don't even have time to paint my tails to SE, my nite shades + clear coat can has been sitting in my garage since last summer.

no time to even do the AE headlights.......

i did find some time to do the Home depot Rear wind noise mod tho.

I run a business, i'm on it 12 hours a day everyday, from 10 to 10.

I don't mind paying people to do jobs on my car, not a big issue as long as they don't do a half-a$$ job, which in NY happens a lot.

Prime example, if u check my side skirts, color do not match, check my front lip got 4 screws bolted on front, LOL.

Anywayz, after 1 year of $hitty shops in NY, i finally found Maxx tuning in Long island NY, going to them for the suspension install, i hear they are pretty good and price not bad.

hmm, you sure it's 1.5? i have the illuminas with progress springs, 1.7f 1.5r

Does anyone have a clue whether or not the stiffness of my struts will affect how long they last? since the illuminas can adjust from 1 to 5, i keep mine on 5 simply for performance, should i expect them to not last as long as if i were to have them sat at 3?

I'm pretty sure too that the warranty is only if your springs are no more than a 1.5" drop...

i never knew about this. More details please cause i do hear rear wind noise....

BTW, i seen maxx tunning in action. They not only installed my supercharger on my old max but i witnessed them do a full suspension install on a 4th gen. They not only do quality work but they are pretty fast too.

yeah, you really gotta check housecor's site soo much info and good how-to's

About the rear wind noise:

Basically u gotta install some foam tape in between the door and the trim around it.

it's not gonna purelly kill the wind noise like a luxury car, but it does help a lot.

And the best part is, it's fairly cheap, easy and fast.

I just check Tokicos site and they apparently don't actually give a definitive number they just say "excessive drop"

Since they also make truck struts which can be dropped 6" I guess it is relative.

well, at least they offer warranty.

I mean, what else u want? u want THEM to send u a tech to check them personally and swap them FOR YOU on the spot?

I know most people won't even bother to send these in, but +1 to tokico for even offering to replace them.

Why +1? The warranty is impossible to USE!

What they should do is let you buy another set and reimburse supplier if they find them under warranty.

I had a set of Tokico Blues and H&Rs on my Gen 4 and drove that car on Puerto Rico roads for >50k miles and the shocks were still fine when I sold it...they will definitely last a good amount of time.

I cant speak for the GR2s longevity as I had some and took them off and went back to the Tokico Blues after just 3k miles as they are substantially firmer (harsher) than the Tokico Blues, specially when the weather turns cold, so.....with your rough streets and sometimes bitter winter days, you may wanna think twice about the GR2s

BTW, if you still wanna buy the GR2's, my fronts are still available for sale...send me a PM
