Well it's almost ......scratch that, it's really not worth it in my opinion. I've seen 5th gens with a 5 speed conversion, but haven't seen or heard of anyone attempting a 6 speed conversion. You'll need a 6 speed transmission, factor about 1000.00, 2 new drive axles for a manual, about 400 (price check) a piece from the dealer, whether you want HSLD or not, which you probably would...pretty sure it's over a grand, a clutch pedal and shifter assembly....lord knows how much. I mean right there you're already looking at well over 3000.00 and that's for some of the parts, not to mention the few thousand dollars you'd spend for labor also. Another route would be to find a donor car. Maybe I'm all wrong, maybe I'm not but there just seems to be too much work and expense going into a conversion like this, especially if you don't plan on boosting or doing some extensive tracking. Who's to say you will or won't have issues with it in the future. Then try and go to sell a conversion like that, you're just asking to be out alot of money.

Best advice is to get below the negative equity in it, sell the bad boy, and look for a 6-speed. Not sure if any of this helps, but I hope that it's steered you in a good direction.

Ya might be better off selling the car and buying a 6-speed..... unless ya have some major hook up on parts....

I had to do the same with my job (DOE, NWC, nuclear weapon work)

I'm actually looking into the 5A a little more in detail now, I have a hread in the 1/4 mile forums that I may move into here. I'm doing gear/rpm/speed analysis comparing it to the current 4A, the 6M, and the previous gen 5M. May have to have the mods move it over here to the 5g area.

You have an 02... so no ready made SC for you... you could wait till the turbo is done, but I'm not sure how it would fly with the auto tranny, plus, I hope ya know its not just plug n play.... a lot of time, skill, knowledge, and money involved... if ya have it, great, if not, its not gonna be fun at all. Its your car and your money...

No such thing, unless you're in the positive equity.....Dealers love the whole even swap then........I use to sell cars for 4 years.

Not recommended at all, but still a way out. Sell your max, take a little loss if you have negative equity which you probably will, go find a 6-speed at a killer deal, and if you credit holds up tack the - equity from the old car onto the new one, then you've got a 6-speed.

Even better idea, make extra payments to get you right side up, sell the auto, buy the 6-speed.

I highly do not recommend the first option, just a way out. Not necessarily the best way out though.

What is wrong with it? I also have many regrets about buying a fu*king automatic. The other option is to get a tranny rebuild kit from a company called "level 10". Someone here should be able to point you in the right direction. Also mabye a VB upgrade from max tuning. Those would be a whole lot cheaper. My .02.... good luck

On a brighter note, Blubyu2k2 had a 2k2 auto, and sprayed it with 100 shot when he had it, and owned pretty much anything he ran. One of them being a Supercharged 350z......it's not all that bad if you're looking for a faster max.

Happy B-day! Must be nice to be able to ask for and get money. I never did. Anyway, what it comes down to is just live with your auto for a while. Meanwhile, save your money. Once you find a 6-speed you like, find a buyer to take over your auto. Take a loss if you have to. Pick up the 6-speed. Take the money you saved and go wild with your new car. Better yet, sell your car now (don't trade it) and pick up a cheap beater. Save the money you would have spent on comprehensive and gap insurance (and gas!) until you can afford a 6-speed. That's how I'd do it anyway.

You may want to figure out how to keep your car's tail end from coming around before you start a tranny swap in your PEALR WHITE '02

This is a perfect example of "get what you want and don't settle for anything else" when you do buy a car. 6 speeds do rock though....
