whats an 02 Max worth???
I bought an 02 Max GLE with ---get ready-----90K
got it at a dealer auction.
after paying off the dealer to get it for me, tax, tags, and all fees it was $12,000.
its in pretty good shape and runs great, but the Maxima and GLE emblems were missing from the trunk, so may have had an accident, but cant tell from paint or body.
what is it worth in you opinions-did i do good or get fu*ked? any suggestions?

To me, where you got the car raises much more concern than the missing emblems. Repair shops rarely overlook something so obvious because they want repairs to look as original as possible. Why get the repairs done if the car still looks like it's been in an accident, right? Take that with a grain of salt though, as there are some shoddy repair shops. Most likely, the previous owner probably just took off the emblems for style sake. But that raises the question of what else the previous owner did and what else has happened to the car. In my experience, dealer autions attract cars with costly hidden problems. For peace of mind, get a CarFax if you haven't already. Members in the general forum can help you out. Have a mechanic look for possible problems. He/she can probably give you a more definitive answer about prior body damage. There are also specialized mobile inspection services that do all this for around $100. Ask around or check in your local phonebook. Assuming everything checks out, it seems you got a fair price, especially since the price included tax and all fees. You didn't mention what options you have though. Best of luck. Hope you enjoy your new car.

The current retail on 02 Maximas within 50 miles of my area ---> 2002 Nissan Maximas

Congrats on the new car... I hope its trouble free... but shouldn't ya be asking these questions before getting the car? Because now, if people tell ya you've overpaid (doesn't seem like ya have though), ya can't do much but live with it...
Anyways, all the best with everything... its a nice ride.. I'm sure you'll enjoy it...

I paid $19k for my 2k2 max in 2k2 with 9000 miles on it. Does that mean it's appreciated? :
My car's worth about $13.5k or so. I doubt being a GLE would make it worth an extra $7,000.
BTW -- It's worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

Right? Maybe "right" at the dealer. They've got at least $3k in that car ... probably closer to $5k or $6k.
Don't ever pay anywhere near sticker price on a used car. Even if it's KBB Private Party price. They won't put a car on their lot they could possibly lose money on ... grind them down as close to KBB trade in value as you can get. In fact, you should *start* your negotiations at that number.
God I wish I found my car at a dealer instead of private party ... I could have practically stolen it from them.

It's amazing how cheap the automatics are. They absolutely flooded the market with them so they're going for prices that are insane to me. Check G10's links there. I'd buy any of those cars for those prices ... if they're in good shape.

wow. these prices are kinda high. i think if you look for a little bit, you can get these cars for around $15-17k with less thank 40k miles. just speaking from experience. i live in ohio, so i dont know what kind of price variances there are in big cities like chicago.

Again, keep in mind that dealer prices are always high. I saw cars up to $23k when I was searching ... but they were all at dealers.
To clarify what I said earlier, when you go to a dealer, you should never pay any more than KBB Private party value and you should start at KBB trade in value. If you get it for KBB Private party, you should be pretty happy, and really happy depending on how much you can get off that price. KBB is a great reference point.

Guys listen to this. I went this Dodge dealership , I saw one max 03, but the light were replaced with a 01 on it .had 31206 miles on it. We told the sales guy that we were goin to drive it off the lot of the price was just right .The sales guys refuse to tell us the price of the car inspite of me and my friend telling them that we were willing to put down 5G on it. Can you believe that bulls*hit. The guy told me that his boss told him that we should come back when we have a co-signer and cash in hand.....that was so fcuked up.
PS. those links that i have put up. those cars have some sort of damage on it . that why they are cheaper then we expected. ( never get carried away with the price, there is always a catch )

people have to remeber that an "asking price" is higly negotiable. they put a high asking price because 1 of every five morons will pay the asking price.

Upstate: closer to 3% actually or 3 in every 100.
An example of how our used cars are priced:
1. We trade for the car. Say we give the customer $15,000. This is the ACV (actual cash value) of the vehicle. We use Black Book (not kelley or NADA) to price all vehicles and all vehicles are appraised as being in Good condition unless there is evident damage. Typically black book will run $1-2k behind Kelley trade.
2. After the deal is closed, $400.00 is added to the cost of the car for a "commission pack" to help cover the commission on a successful sale of the trade-in later.
3. So far we're at $15,400. Now we perform a 54-point inspection on the vehicle. At a minimum, even if being sent to auction, it receives a full detail, buff, wax, and state emissions inspection -- about $600.
4. $16,000 now. We decide we want to keep the car. The average used car needs $1,300 in repairs to be saleable -- mostly in tires, brakes, and maintenance items. On top of this, we add another $200 for vin etching (window engraving) and a road hazard package. Now we're at $17,500.00.
5. You see the $15,000 car on a local lot priced for $21,995 -- about a $3,500 markup. This way, even if we sell the car for $18,000 + tax, title, license and any addons (tint, etc), we still make a slight profit.
This is why you receive $15,000 on trade and the car "retails" for $22k.

Yep a dealers asking price means little. Figure 1-3K off what they are asking and thats the sale price. $12K for a GLE with 90K miles sounds ok. Probably 1-2K less than you could get it for elsewhere.
Maximas just loose their value quickly. but its a depreciating asset. However, they bottom out at a higher value than other cars so there is an end to the depreciating.
