But could I buy the cheap ebay projectors and replace the projector with a hid projector? And then maybe still use the 02-03 factory hid bulbs and ballasts?

like i said, if you buy the projectors you can't use the bulbs because they are a different size (D2R). Projectors reuqire a D2S bulbs. Ballast are fine. hidplanet.com <~~~ all the info you need in the forums

As a side note, I have pictures, but need to upload them. If you want to see some you can PM me, but i will try to get them up this week.

the only way you can use your factory hid bulbs is to cut a notch in the bulb and scrape off the gray stuff on the bottom and remove the shield. Its a very delicate process which requires patience. Fortunetly, there are members on hidplanet who will sell used d2s with the factory kelvin rating for around $50.

Planning to do a retro pretty soon. One problem though, I couldn't find any MDX projectors yet. So my question is can I get E46(or other D2S projector) and put halogen buld in them.

obviously they put your light output to shame... you're using 7000k.... hhaha. You shouldn't be using anything over 4300k if you want maximum lightoutput. If you want more color out of your lights... (bluish bmw flicker)... there is several things you can do to the sheild to make the colorband wider.. like bending it.. adding washers... and maybe even sharpening the edge of the shield..

If you have reflector 2k2 lights forget about doing anything to replicate the bluish colorband of bmw, audi, nissan, lexus projector lenses...

Why would you want to do that! If you get Bosche E46 projectors or Valeos, you should get some phillips ballasts and OSRAM D2S bulbs to go along with such a great projector.. which is designed for HID. You'd have to mod the bowl in order for the crappy H3 bulb to fit.. and you'd get crappier lighting.. just wait till you can afford to buy the e46 projectors, ballasts, and bulbs(capsules).. then you'll be set for a great lighting setup

E55 projectors run about 3in in diameter... it might be a tight fit for a retro into the projector housing. better fits would probably Include:
Valeos(Audi A4): 2.5in
Bosch E46 (BMW 3 series): 2.5in
Stanley (Honda s2000): 2.5

there are others.. but these are the most common medium diameter projectors.

you cant get e46 projectors and put halogens in there but you can use valeo h7 projectors and upgrade to HIDs when you are ready.

Wow you're pretty quick with the cash flow for a 16yr old... then again, it's not lik eyou have bills to pay....... can you buy me some too! Remember you'll need to get some phillips ballasts now too... and some D2S Osram bulbs to fit in your e46 projector.

If you're in miami.. i'm not sure if there's anyone down that way that could help you... Your best bet is to go to http://www.hidforum.com and ask for help there. There might be some retrofitters in your area on that website. If not.. i know that DrRoy on the .org might be willing to help you.. if you are willing to ship him your lights.. that means you would need to put your old lights back in your car till he ships them back to you.
