I'm noticing a momentary power drop somewhere around 3,500 rpms and a return to normal by about 4,000rpms. I had the 1320 SES recently but taped up the coils and installed new plugs. No light for the past week and it is much easier to drive smoothly between shifts (5spd) although idle still seems to have a little miss sometimes and the 3.5k power drop is still present.
Is the 3.5-4K power drop a symptom of coils or somthing else?
Thanks,

I have this problem....decent low end grunt from idle to 3k...anything above that...a NASTY power loss...we are talkin about 75whp or so here....oh yeah my car doesn't like to start-up easy either...it takes about 3 seconds of cranking as opposed to stock (.5 second)

went to the stealership and got a new MAF and reprogrammed all for $150 out the door....I bought the 22680-2y001 MAF becuz they plug&play with the 2k2-2k3s as long as the IAT sensor is transferred.....after I got my car back from reprogramming....Still experience the same symptoms but it did get a little bit better....

I came to the conclusion it is my melted/clogged precats in the exhaust manifolds...I am going to be putting cattman headers in to see if fixes the problem...I will keep all of ya'll updated on the situation...

I have the same problem with the power dip (hesitation) at around 3.5k rpm in 3rd gear. It is very noticable at first...maf turned bad...bought another one did the same but not as bad and maf #2 died...now i'm on my third maf and so far I havent notice that pronounce power dip. Stealership tomorrow to get the ECU update.

Very similar problems here too. Huge power drop at around 3k rpm. Had P1320 and replaced coils but it didn't fix the problem. No error codes for a long time but runs like crap and seems to be getting worse. Also lurches while slowly crusing in 1st. Just got error code P0171. Not sure whether to replace the MAF or.... Also has a rotten egg smell occassionally after turning engine off which I've heard is caused by a bad catalytic convertor....Any suggestions?

I also have a similar prob on my 2k. I thought that if the maf was bad that I would get a check engine light, but I guess thats not the case.

in most of your cases, it's most likely the early symptoms of your MAF going bad....i mean, it could be a number of things, since all of you have different stories but from what i've heard on the .org, when this happens, it doesn't take to long for the MAF to fail and not allow you to rev past 2k or something....i can't believe that something that small can do so much to an engine like that...and not to mention ours are about as sturdy as tissue paper....

what yr maxima do u have? if you have a 2002 and up...your symptoms qualify for a clogged precat in the exhaust manifold.....the only way to fix it is to replace it completely with new ones/aftermarket ones.....or punch out your current ones....your choice.....also if you have a 2001 cali spec maxima....it shares the same front manifold as the 2k2s....so you can still qualify for it...

the rotten egg smell definitely has something to do with your cats....
