I ran through some old posts but didn't spot anything via search on this....so here goes the story.
This is the first problem i've had with my 2k max since i got her almost a year ago now. Well the other night during a road trip I tried to open my sunroof with the one touch click...and this started to happen.
it whirred for a couple of seconds and popped up..thinking i hit the wrong button i closed it up and tried again
then its going back a couple of inches and I have to tap the button to open her up...holding it doesn't do any good either.
Long story short i brought my max to the dealer today to check out...after 3 1/2 hrs they told me they haven't got a clue to whats wrong. They switched motors and still the same thing happened...they think its electrical?
so now i gotta bring her back in the morning n leave it all day. anyone else had this particular problem/fix before?

I think a few people have complained of having similar problems with their sunroof. They said the dealer had to replace the circuit board that controls the sunroof. I have had no problems with mine though

Thanks UMD_MaxSE I'll have to mention that to the service guy in the morning. I hope this doesn't drag on and on because they can't figure it out. i guess i'll know sometime tommorrow...

My 2000 is in the shop right now for a similar problem. The roof only moves about 2 inches each time I press the switch and nothing happens in the fully automatic mode. The dealer says it's the motor - it seems more like a board type of problem though. I'll let you know.

I think early 2K Maximas had this problem.

As to the motor vs. board issue here is a simple explanation: The board is on the motor. (idiots trying to save 10 cents of wiring, not considering how long it takes to fix.)

My sunroof seems to be repaired - the replaced the motor. I tend to think Bert hit the nail on the head with his explanation.

Go figure

Had a problem trying to post yesterday as it seemed to reject...but Bert's answer sure makes sense...
so after the 2nd motor they put in the problem seems to be solved...weird coincidence on day one...darn shame waste of time to go back n forth for two days.

Sunroof problems continued

Got my 2000 back with a new sunroof motor installed. I thought everything was repaired, but... When I first start the car the open/shut button won't work until I use the tilt button once and the auto close feature doesn't full close the roof. Does anyone know of a TSB on this - believe it or not my Dealer Shop says "It's supposed to be like that."

I got to say your dealer is a lazy S.O.B you better get a second opinon on that one or talk to the service manager about this. Thats the ridiculous crap that seems to P.O. many of the members when trying to get warranty work done, they got a log of gall to tell you that B.S.

Sunroof Closing Question

Although it's a 2000, I just got my Max and have nothing to compare to. I'd appreciate info from anyone who is familiar with the sunroof operation on the 2000, as the OM is not detailed... When you close your roof using the fully automatic mode, does the roof close completely (as in it is flush with the metal roof section, when checked from outside the car) or do you have to complete the closing process using the tilt button?

yes.... push the botton forwards until it clicks and the roof closes completely. no need to use the tilt button.
