Wtf I Found A Spacer Below My Pedal!

LOL I never noticed until today that a little black block was preventing me from pressing down the throttle all the way. I removed it and I swear I don't know if i'm just tripping or if it really picks up me and my brother both concluded it picked up hell of a lot differently the RPMs seem to go a lot higher and I can press my pedal down almost 2 inches more then before. Has anyone seen one of these are there 5.0 gen?

Never heard of it before, but considering all the power on the 3.0s is up top, I am not surprised to hear you have felt some pick up.

i have a small suggestion........PUT IT BACK ON....that is there for a reason...if i'm not mistaken, there was even a TSB about it being too short or something. if you remove it, and press it down, something could happen. put it back on now and resolve the reason as to why it's bad later on...but put it on.

Yeah most likely the spacer(stopper) prevents you pushing the accerator to far down, putting to much tension on the accelator cable due to the extra travel created by removing stopper.

Put it back on, you are putting alot of stress on the cable at WOT without the stopper. You might snap the cable.

If i remember correctly, the tsb was for the 5.5 gen, with the drive by wire. There was a problem with the pedel sliding around the stopper and over extending the pedal. This cause the engine to go into limp mode. I dont know how it effects the 5 gens, but i cant imagine it not being there for a reason.

There was a Recall on the 5.5gens.
2002 Maxima Accelerator Pedal Stop

Applies to 2002 Maxima (A33), the following Vehicle Identification Number Range:
JN1DA31**2T 000011 to 001804
JN1DA31**2T 200011 to 204465
JN1DA31**2T 300014 to 308328
JN1DA31**2T 400011 to 419097.

The number of vehicles potentially affected is approximately 30,592.
Please review the disclaimer located at the bottom of this page for more instruction.

Reason for Recall
Your vehicle is equipped with an electronic throttle control system. Under usual driving conditions, the stopper for the accelerator pedal will prevent excessive movement of the accelerator position sensor. However, if the driver pushes the pedal to the stopper with overly excessive force while at the same time pushing it to the right, the pedal may "over travel" due to the design of the stopper. This could cause the engine malfunction indicator lamp to come on and the engine speed to be severely limited. If this occurs unexpectedly, it could lead to a crash.

That's why 5.5gens have a little stopper beneath the accelerator pedal. Don't know about the 5gens though.

I don't have a spacer on mine. but I do know that the 5.5 gen has them since they are drive by wire.

The 5th gen throttle cable stress argument is valid. The 5.5th gen is throttle-by-wire, so you can't put too much stress on the throttle cable by pushing the pedal too far. Of course, pushing the pedal down farther than it already goes wouldn't help on a 5.5th gen if what Technosquare says is true. They say that at WOT, the computer actually closes the throttle a little bit (so instead of 100%, you're at 80-something%).

Why dont you get your friend to press down on the cable without the spacer and look at the throttle body and then with the spacer. If the butterfly is all the way open with the spacer then just kep the spacer on.

there really isn't a need to remove that spacer.

I datalog with the TPS at 100% when the pedal is fully floored with the little black **** there

Wow.... Is this what the 5th gen forum has come to? There is so much bad information in this thread it is pathetic.
Extra power from removing the spacer? placebo
Stopper to prevent cable snap?
Stopper on rental cars?
Pedal getting stuck?

Polo posted the TSB which describes EXACTLY what the stopper is for.

This has already been stated. The information is there. there is no more need to post in this thread.

could it be that if u press down too far on the pedal it would put too much stress on the cable? (jp.)
