Lightweight wheel effects on wheelhop

Just curious if putting really light rims on the car has any effect on wheelhop?

yes, but it is negated by the reduction of rotational mass. Lighter wheels will generally hop more. The right suspension mods will all but do away with the hop though.

i have no issues with wheel hopping on my kosei 17" 16lbs wheels. ive got a fstb (which i have seen advertised as aiding wheel hop, not sure if i buy it though), maxspeeds all around, stock vlsd and nitto 555 tires. at the same time, i do not have the torque of a 3.5 either.

Haha, it's acutally a fact. Without getting all technical, lighter wheels will not cause as much torsional vibration, and will slow down and speed up quicker which smoothes out wheel hop.

the Stage II LTB made the most significant effect on reducing wheel hop. WIth that, Illuminas, ES FSB bushings, and an FSTB, I have an extremely hard time hopping the front...

kind of a skewed fact. With factory springs and struts, that is indeed the case, as the stock wheels are heavy and the unsprung weight is too much for the damping rate. Higher damping rate of aftermarket struts/springs can handle the unsprung weight of heavier wheels.

what I'm trying to say: it really depends on your entire suspension/bushing/motor mount/tire type/tire pressure......lighter wheels will not necessarily reduce wheelhop....

it's too late...not thinking clearly....

we don't get wheel hop in auto-x anyhow.....
