Help with EVAP
My SES light came on and I got the codes using the "blinking SES light" method (Found on FAQ and Yahoo Search). According to a list of error codes, I've got "EVAP Control System Gross Leak" and "EVAP Cannister Vent Control Valve Open"
Does anyone know how to fix this and if it is serious?
Thanks in advance for you help.

That same **** just happened to me 2 weeks ago.....and of course it was not covered by my extended warranty. I paid $450 to get it fixed at the dealer because I couldn't find the parts much cheaper anywhere and I have 0 experience with emissions control crap.

Experiencing same problem. I was told to try new gas cap for 15 bucks. It worked for about 2 months. Now ses light comes on evry fill up. I reset ecu so light goes away. Need to have code read to see exactly what codes I'm throwing. Glad to see others having same problem. 2k2 Max Se 95,000 miles

Anyway, I got the same two error codes for months. I notice my gas cap wasn't pressurizing so I bought one for $8 from Autozone and I haven't received either of those codes in over a month. Sure hope that is the fix cause I was quoted $600 to fix at dealer. You can leave it as it doesn't really affect anything that much. Might drop some MPG's though.

Like Epacy said, alot of these problems come from the gas cap not being on correctly. My suggestion is:
(1) Take car to AutoZone
(2) Have codes pulled (they do it for free!)
(3) If evap code is pulled, unscrew gas cap, rescrew (make certain not to crossthread)
(4) Have Autozone dude reset ECU.
(5) Turn car on
(6) (a) If codes are gone, take saved money and buy a cold 12-pack
(6) (b) If code still shows, buy new gascap and repeat STEPS 1 - 6
(7) If code still shows after this, THEN take to dealer.

Do a search for code P0456. I did a fix for it. If you can't find it, i'll try to
repost again.
