Well im puttin on my stock(99) 16 inch se wheels tonight and i say to myself...........Wonder how much weight diff. there really is between my stockers and my 18x8 tsw wheels. Well the weigh-in is as follows.

Stock 16 inch 5 spoke se wheel: 40 lbs. bang on.

TSW 18 inch wheel: 45 and a tiny bit.

Keep in mind these weights were with tires also.

To me the extra 5 lbs is not much of an issue from a performance stand point. Im also estimating a 19x8 inch wheel with a 235 25 19 will not weigh in much more than the 18. Of course weights will vary from brand to brand.

My motto: if you cant afford it, finance it.

2000 SE 16's with tires 35 pounds

I weighed mine on Saturday. I have Yokohama Avid V4's on my 2000 SE/GLE 16" rims.

I have the GXE with 15" wheels and recently went with 5 spoke 18" chrome wheels and don't notice any change really when I punch it

What are the biggest 19's that will fit on a 2k SE? Will 265/35/19's shoehorn under there?

the mass of the wheels has a dual effect on acceleration
(i think anyway - this all could be bs, because i'm basing it on my own conclusions from what i learned in school)

first: an extra 5 or ten pounds makes the vehicle heavier - just like hauling around a gallon of water (or gas).

second: because the weight is on the wheels (a spinning part) there is a rotational inertia to overcome as well when accelerating.

so the difference in heavier wheels is more than you might imagine. i don't know the numbers on it all, but can assume that the weight distribution of the wheel itself may be a major factor as well - for instance, if the weight is concentrated near the axis it will wave less rotational inertia, whereas if the weight is more concentrated around the edge (rim) it will have more rotational inertia.

it's like the difference that a lightweight flywheel will make - much more than the actual weight difference of the before and after parts.

Thanks for the personal asthetic commentary, but I am still wondering what sizes will fit! Just for curiosities sake!

well i wouldnt go with a 265. youll rub for sure, you may have to roll the fenders also. A 235 35 19 will give you a very close o.e.m overall diameter. As for bending a rim, if you know the road and pay reasonable amount of attention to the road, i doubt it would happen. (Ive never bent one yet, could be the roads in canada are in relatively good shape also).
