I'm pretty sure that I was almost crunched by a Tractor and Trailer on the way to work today. Yeah, it was very scary, I'm sure the Toyota Corolla was probably worried for me. It was just after exiting a toll booth and the Tractor had no idea that I was on his left. He started to merged quickly into my lane when I was past the point of no slowing down. I accelerated from like 40 to 80 hammer down until I was good and clear. I'm pretty sure that my Max must have looked like a silver rocket with a trail of silver mist (or should I say Sterling Mist) water behind it. If I had been riding in anything less who knows I might not be here to post. Who was it that ever said speed kills, I say speed saves..lol. After I went by him and was at a safe distance, I observed that he was driving very erratically and almost got the Corolla too. If I had had my cell phone I would have reported him.

Thanks

I'm usually very good about not speeding. Today, I just had a great excuse.

Glad to hear you're alright

I've had to pull off similar moves while navigating through the surrounding burroughs and thruways of NYC, and it's defintiely an adrenelane(sp?)rush

Yeah and I might have saved my left tires from 20 lashes on the rumble strip too. What do you think my wife will say to this one?

"Hey honey I need to order a Stillen Super Charger so that when bad drivers on the Highway try to run me off of the road I can just blow by them like they are standing still. Wouldn't you feel bad if I got hurt because you didn't want to spend a measley $3500 on a Super Charger for me?"

Do you think that she would fall for it?

Unfortunatly, she caught on to my wacked sense of humor about a year after we got married. Now when I ask her questions like these she just looks at me and laughs.

Sigh...it's sad how easily we get brushed off by our wives when it comes to our Maxes.

Lucky Kev...you shouldn't have that problem right?

Ahh! The good 'ol "Catholic Guilt Trip" (I can work guilt like Clinton can work a cigar! ) Got the Catholic Guilt Complex from my parents. When I was a kid, they could make me feel guilty for breathing fresh air when other's were breathing smog.

Glad to hear you're OK.

He he, now that you put it that way I'm starting to feel guilty just for thinking about trying to make her feel guilty.

LOL!

You should feel guility about feeling guilty for thinking about trying to make her feel guilty.

Actually, I was beginning to feel guilty about sending this to you. Then I said to myself: "punkdork would do it"

Great idea!

Maybe since my wife wouldn't let me get a 5-spd because she refuses to learn, I could talk her into a s/c??? Yeah right...well, it's fun to dream.

Not quite a Maxima story, but close...

I had a similar experience in my '93 NX2000 a few years back. I was driving in morning rush hour on the Interstate, bumper to bumper traffic, everyone going about 60. The car in front of me was this big 80s American car, and he was following the car in front of him too close. The car in front of him braked hard, and he slammed on the brakes trying to stop. He lost control and spun around 180 degrees, looking directly at me. I'm going too fast to stop in time, so I cut hard right into the emergency lane. My tail pops out, then back into place, and I pull back on the road and keep on driving.

Crazyest driving experience I've ever had. If I hadn't been in a car with such good handling, I probably would have had a wreck. Love my NX.

Glad to hear you made it out fine. <preaching>If you had a decent following distance this wouldn't have happened though. Anyone who complains about the person in front of them stopping too quickly needs to increase their following distance. It's such a simple way to prevent yourself from getting into an accident.

I get soooo sick of being tailgated. When driving heavy traffic at ~60mph I can look around me and most of the cars have less than two car lengths following distance. That just scares me.

I drive like every other car is an enemy... I don't want to be close to them. If that means I have to slow down... so be it (normally it means hitting the gas pedal ).</preaching>

Speed is our friend

How come we have a speed limit in US on our highways. I just dont get it. In other countries they dont have speed limit and they have less car accidents than we do here. Why not just have no speed limit this way less accidents occur since cars will be all at great distances betwen each other. If some grandma wants to go slow thats just fine, with no speed limit u will pass her at 120 mph.
