Those of you in the LA area , you may know about this dealership. All others you may want to take the time to read this also. I stopped by GLENDALE NISSAN yesterday to pick up and have installed a latch for my center console. While I was waiting for my car I strolled around the dealership to look at the new Maximas. They had 3 Anniversary Editions on the lot. They had 2 Sterling Mist and 1 Dark Blue. I checked the price on all 3 and the term STICKER SHOCK came to my mind immediately. The dark blue one was $37,000 and change!!!!!!!!! They were asking $5000 above factory sticker for an AE with an Auto trans!!!! I could not believe my eyes. The other 2 had a maunual transmission and were $36,000 and change!!!! A salesman came out, and of course wanted to know if I was interested in buying one. I outright told him......"you really think someone is going to pay almost $40,000 for a maxima????" I told him that I payed $26,000 plus tax and license for a fully loaded SE one year ago at another dealership(Performance Nissan). I could not believe that this dealership would ask so much over factory sticker for a car. A few minutes later my car was ready and I was very happy to know that I paid $10,000 less for a fully loaded SE one year ago.

That what they like call dealer mark-ups. The reason why they are adding that huge mark-up is because of the demand of that car. Come on now, you can't just walk in the any Nissan store and say "Hey buddy, I want an AE Maxima in sterling mist, black leather, traction control and no 6-CD changer." I mean how many dealerships would have that particular car? So thats why dealerships make it hard and ask for like $5,000 over M.S.R.P which I think is ridiculous, but if someone wants its that bad then will pay more for it I guess. Plus I bought my car at Glendale Nissan and got my 2000 GLE, fully loaded with a 6-cd changer for $25,789 last year. They do good business.

$$$$$$$$

The dealership in question probably added this markup in order to start a deal moving down from increased $$ versus someone coming in and wanting to ****er below MSRP. They have a 5k spread that is complete profit and thus if they give even 3k back your still above MSRP. When I worked at Buick (lot boy) in 86-87 we did this on all Turbo T's, GN's, and GNX's. Sorta weeds out the wanna be's versus the player also !!!!!!

Not unusual...

I paid close to invoice on my AE, but the dealer had marked up MSRP by $3K...over $33K when I walked on the lot. I just laughed and crossed the dealer markup off the little sheet of paper and then started from invoice.

$37,000 for a Maxima?!?!? Good god! If those AEs were lined with gold and silver, then maybe.

But no Maxima is worth that much (except in our hearts where it's priceless). Shoot, anything over $30,000 and you start to get into the luxury car market which is a place that the Maxima doesn't fall into...at least not until 2003.

Yeah, I know all about that dealership. Those guys are morons. I'm amazed as to how the can maintain a dealership. Last week I wanted to get a used car for my dad and I saw a used 2000 GLE (bare bones) and they wanted 27K for it. I was like WTF? I can get a fully loaded SE plus crap for that price out the door.
Oh yeah, btw, is that $6K off MSRP valid for AEs?

Hey Dave, thank god, I live in Canada and I paid 36K CDN, which is roughly 24K us for my 2001 se 20 th.

I guess there must be some rich people surrounding the dealer area and for some of these guys 5K is pocket change.

Cheers

Not truly the Stillen business model until the somehow force all other dealers to charge similar prices or forfeit their right to sell AEs.

I just went to my dealer yesterday, and I saw that they had 3 AEs on the lot. One of the salesguys said that they are having trouble selling them because they are loaded and thus expensive.

I got my SE auto with differntial fully loaded for less than 37grand Canadian. Got it for approx 20k USD.

If we have 37grand, we could move upto a Lexus GS or even a Volvo T5.

Please help me with the math here.

20,000.00 in US dollars equals 30,798.00 Canadian dollars.

Conversely:

37,000.00 in Canadian dollars equals 24,027.53 US dollars

I guess your statement IS accurate. You could also say that you got your car for less than 50grand Canadian.

The 99 A4 1.8T came with a 1.8L turbo with 150hp. It was tested that just a chip boosted horse power upto 190hp. The stock engine itself was capable of 210hp. Now with the new 1.8T prducing 170hp, are we looking at better performance from the chip? Like 220hp with the chip?

Or is the new 170hp 1.8T same as the 150hp 1.8T except with some minor computer changes?

I agree with Killer. It's just a way to get you to think you are saving money by chopping off a few G's when negotiating. An educated buyer knows that you should begin negotiations with invoice price. Somebody on this board posted yesterday that they negotiated a price of 26,600 for a fully loaded 5 speed AE and they were wondering if it was a good deal.

The 1.8t is a very well-used engine throughout VW/Audi, you can find it in the A4, TT, Golf/GTI, Jetta, Passat, and who knows what euro models. Most stories I hear say you get about 60hp (probably) at the flywheel. I'd assume that just tacks on to the existing hp whether it be 150 or 170 or 180 or 225 (the last two being the available power options on the TT). Exhaust tuning on those cars frees up a lot too. I suggest you run over to http://www.vwvortex.com and http://www.audiworld.com and do some reasearch.

Why do you think they call it LA LA land? I to paid at invoice for a fully loaded SE (everthing except heated seats/mirrors and side airbags) which was $26k even.
Even in seattle they are now asking $32K for 2001s.
If the cars depreciated like a Benz or BMW that's one thing, but as we all know our cars drop in value like Rossane Barr on a bannana peel )

Hmmmm, let's see....if one lives in that LA area and he/she actually and wrongfully thinks the 2002 Altima is a flagship-class car...then I'd guess the sticker price would be in the $40,000 range.

out here in boston

got my 2001 Se maxima fully loaded for 24,800. my brother in law has bought 3 maximas in the last 7 years from Quirk Nissan. plus he used to be a salesman, he knows what they get them cars for. so he talked them down and just kept on insisting. it comes to the poinnt that sometimes they give up, or they either have to put food on the table.

i am happy with my purchase.. but i can't believe 37 for the AE. i would have left and told him i would go for the lincoln LS. did you know lincoln charges you more for a manual than an auto.
