Evap Canister

My service engine light came on so i decided to get it checked because I have nissans super warranty. (silly me)! Anyway they call and tell me its the evap canister and it will cost me 600 bucks because their super cover everything warranty doesnt cover everything. Anyway I can get this part myself and perform the operation or am I at the mercy of nissan.

(1) Take car to Autozone
(2) Have code pulled
(3) Remove gascap
(4) Reinsert gas cap tightly, making certain not to crossthread
(5) Have code reset by Autozone guy
(6) Spend $10 on a 12 pack and enjoy the other $590 on a new mod.

I agree! I did the same exact thing and my "Evap Canister" code went away for good. Can't hurt to try a free fix!

I pulled that code and the Gross System Leak (Large) code for months. I finally bought a new gas cap and both codes have never come back-2 months.

I had the same codes and I went to autozone and had them take the codes off. The codes didnt come back on for a few days but they still poped up. I bought a new evap canister and a new gas cap from dealer, I think I payed under $350 for both, codes never came back on.

thats exactly what a gross leak code is--9 times out of 10--is the gas cap--but there are a lot of different codes for the evap system--but usually we do not condem a canister unless the vent control valve is bad(that sets its own code)--cuz on some of the new systems have the valve in the canister. the only time would be when the canister comes apart--pull a hose off and little black bbs come out. then you have to blow out the whole system to make sure that all of the charcoal is out, otherwise if it gets to the purge control valve-then you have to replace that as well----have not really seen this happen to maximas--unless the vehicle has been running rich alot.

"we" (you sound like you speak for nissan). "you dont condemn a canister unless the vent control valve is bad"??? you diagnose each separately starting with the VCV then proceed to do an evap pressure test. so on and so forth…
