Saying Goodbye to My Fart Can

I bought an 02 Maxima SE and it came with a rusted out Greddy cat back although the muffler is in pristine condition. I have on order a Warp Y-pipe, Magnaflow B-pipe - stainless pipe to the muffler and a Magnaflow Cat. The Greddy sounds good at lower speeds but at higher speeds there is a drone. I wanted to buy a new muffler that would give me the performance of the Greddy without the noise. There are many choices in a Cat back system but I only need the Muffler. Can anyone suggest where I can buy just a muffler in SS that is quiet and performance oriented?

Thanks in advance

Cattman. I gained 14 whp with Cattman exhaust. Not overly loud at all. Very quiet at idle. Not stock for sure when you are getting on it and fairly quiet on highway. I don't notice it above music at all. I have not received anything but approvals of the sound. I have no complaints so far other than it is still clanking a bit.

So ya gained 14 whp with your Cattman cat-back and nothing else? Any tuning? Got the run files? I'd like to see em if possible, thanks.

Hi Puppet, I am away from my scanner tonight but I will scan at least the printout and I will Email my dyno guy and see if he can get me the run files. I also changed the timing and tuned the motor via SAFC II. Not a pure catback dyno but as close as I can get you. Will post tomorrow when I am back at home.

300 bills just for the muffler is too rich for my taste. I'm looking to spend half that - if possible.

The Cattman catback does improve gains more than people tend to believe on the 3.5
People are stuck in the 5hp rutt from the 3.0.

If you want a cheap muffler, do a google search. I have a $50 SS muffler on my max and it works just fine.

Cool... thanks...

Thanks for clarifying btw... the timing and tuning must have contributed to that 14 whp significantly...

I wasn't.... I was genuinely interested in seeing the dyno plots... as you can see from my 2nd post, I was merely seeking clarification in terms of whether the gains he saw were the result of just a cat-back or if he did anything else (I knew he had a AFC and was going to tune as well) to add to the numbers.

The reason why I'm interested is because I wanted to see a) cat-back gains measured by the dyno (if he had em), however small and b) the effects of AFR tuning on lightly modded/stock Maximas.

FYI I was talking to Brian Catts today and they are installing the new beta version of the US made SS Cattman headers today(Tues). He said his personal Max dyno'd 240 with the NZ headers. Hopefully these new ones have even more go. Hey Puppet how big were those hoseclamps you fit over the exhaust hangers?

oh well, it was just another case of me seeing someone post questionable HP gains, someone asking about them, and my first reaction is that they person asking is being sarcastic.
after being here nearly two years i still am amazed at how easy it is to assume someone's mood incorrectly from a forum post.

You want to see a dyno of a stock 03 6spd max then with a catback?

Here you go.

Does anyone know the ballpark figure in terms of price for these new SS headers? An estimated release date might be helpful as well........hummmmm, hopefully this will be the new unveiling at Maxus this week.

Frankencar and Cattman seem to be the lowest noise.... unless ya find a generic muffler you can weld on...

Thanks... even though I'd seen it before, I'm sure the others will benefit...

Not sure.... they came with my Frankencar cat-back... basically they just barely fit over the stock hangers when fully unscrewed.
