Alright been working really hard to find a new car to replace my totalled 02. I can't believe what dealers expect you to pay for 02-03 maximas w 30,000-40,000 miles on them. I am looking only at 6 speeds and most of my negoations have broken down. This 03 w/ 41000 miles on it was listed for 20,888 and i talked them down to 19,000.http://www.automart.com/vehicledetai.../MASSACHUSETTS
It's loaded with everything except navi. It has HLSD and the car seems to be in mint condition. Everthing looked clean and in good shape....Do you think 19,000 is fair.

wow that's a crap load of money for a max with 41000....idk for 19K, maybe i would go for it, but i would think you could find one for cheaper than that...

I would say $17K-18K would be fair. That's a lot of miles, but the dealership is probably counting on the fact 6 speeds are relatively rare so I doubt they'll move any lower than $19K. Good luck though.

Yes i think the fact its a 6 speed is why they don't wanna go any lower. This wasn't my first choice because the miles are kinda high. My 02 only had 43000 miles on it. My first choice was this http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...=en&cardist=17 But the this dealership doesn't wanna move at all on price so i walked.

The black one is nice. Miles are good. It is also a titanium edition(It looks like)
Would probably be worth the 2,000 extra

Yes its TE and very very clean car. I drooled all over it when i saw it in person. Looks and drives like its brand new that's why dealer is so refusing to lower the price. I think you are 100% right about it being worth the extra 2 grand. It's only been on the dealers lot since 6/2 so they probably feel someone will pay the asking price if i won't

Somebody might pay that price. But put yourself in the dealer's shoes. They probably shelled out a value of about $14k for the trade-in. They're looking to sell a car just as much as you're looking to buy one. Don't let the salesman's cocky attitude fool you.

Just be more forceful. Go in there and tell them that you found another one (they may ask where, just make something up) for $17,000 for a nearly identical car. They'll huff and puff for a while, but if you don't show weakness or willingness to go up, they'll break. Give it a shot...you've got nothing to lose.

I am gonna offer them 18,500 to see if they will bit. If not then thats my final offer. I will just have to keep searching . Damn that's a nice ride though. That same dealership had a 02 6sp loaded everything except navi with 34,000 miles on it and it sat on there lot for a month and a half because they wanted 19,295 for it. I just sold 2 days ago. So i bet they got deseparte and sold it for much less. My main problem is the extra fees i am paying while i have this rent a car so i need to move quickly on something

You're playing right into their hand offering them $18,500. Offer them $17,500 and tell them you're not prepared to go higher and see what they say. See who blinks first. You can always raise your price but you can't lower it!

This is good advice. You may try to bring in an ace negotiator with you to talk these guys down. Then you can tag team the salesmen. There is a guy I work with that can make car salesmen feel like ignorant children at the stealership. One time he renegotiated a deal for a friend at work a day after a deal was already signed !!

Try dealing with another salesman and maybe waiting them out a little. Car sales will be slowing shortly.

dont tell them that you care for any options other than 6spd, that way the dealer might think you're not very interested and he'll have to come down more on the price for you to buy this car. Seriously, have you considered any other comparable cars for the money you're willing to spend?

$17,500 is a very fair price. Trust me, they are still making plenty of money off of you at that price.

As a car dealer, i can tell you that they are still smiling if you closed for 19k. Bring it to 17k, and they are definately still turning $$$.

But the particular salesman may not be high enough in the chain to make the decision to pass you the car for 16,500/17,000/18,500, etc.

Management may be thinking "Hey, if we wait on this maxima... someone may come in next week, and buy it for 20,500..... we want a deal... we want to clear it off the lot... but why sell it for 18k to this guy when we can turn 19000 easy if we hold it in our lot for a few weeks?"

Good luck to you

I've had my '02 on the org FS listings for a few months now. I'm not actively trying to sell it, but i have it out there. I'm asking $20,900 for my blk/blk 6-speed w/ only 16,500 miles.

From experience working at a Nissan dealership in NJ, I would say on average about $5000 to as much as $7000 depending on the deal. Stick to your guns at $17,500. I think this is a win-win situation. Used cars was where I made the majority of my commissions because there was so much profit built in.

I think it's the mileage that's killing you there. They would put that out on their lot for $19K and more likely than none, some sucker would buy it at that price or talk them down another $1K and think they got an awesome deal.

I just picked up a 02 6spd. with 54k - the car is loaded (leather, Meridian, Heated Eveything, traction, etc.) I paid 13,400 on Ebay. You might want to consider looking Ebay. You'll have to travel but it may be worth it. If you don't like the car then you don't buy it.
