I have a 2001 SE AE with the in-dash Cass/CD/Bose.

My question is, is the wiring there for the trunk mounted CD changer to be installed, or do I have to run the wire ?

I would like to be able to control the changer from the in-dash unit.

Thanks for any help.

Sorry, the wiring is not already there... If you buy the changer unit either from Nissan or Crutchfield or someother places (??), you will receive a wiring harness that you will need to run from the headunit in the dash back to the trunk.
It involves pulling out the unit, removing the passengers seat in the front and some trim around the bottom of both doors on the passengers side and then back into the trunk. Its a real pain in the butt though (I just recently completed this by the way). Good luck

Thanks - Is head unit hard to remove ?

I think I can figure out running the wire to the trunk, or I guess since I have to run it I can put it under a seat maybe, but does the head unit pull out from the front -or- do I have to disassemble the dash ?

This is my first Maxima so I'm learning.

I appreciate the reply.

My personal opinion on the matter is that the cd-changer is on it's way out.. You can get an MP3 deck for about the same price now... and it stores just as much music on a SINGLE CD... Just a thought..

You can get an aftermarket cd changer without wires, however it wouldn't work with your headunit....

You have to remove the vent assembly and the bottom ash-tray area and trim. The radio is held in by 4 screws. Do a search because it was discussed before and punkdork gave some good instructions.
All the panels are easy to remove. But it took me approx. 2.5 hours for the whole installation...Take your time... you don't want to damage anything.

good luck

To get to the head unit, you do have to take the center part of the dash apart...

remove the seat!?

ugh, I have side air bags... that wasnt going to happen. Finding the wire track was easy without seat removal.
