Engine misfie, possibly a bad spark plug, or igntion coil

I thought that would throw the CEL light, not the OD light. The OD light usually indicates a tranny problem.

a flashing OD light is not good. means that the tranny is messed up, if he was misfiring it would be a flashing CEL or SES light. i know this because i have had both, the OD light on my 95 max, and the SES on my 2000.

anything, tranny goin out, slipping, i mean i don't know for sure. but usually a flashing OD light means that tranny is messed up somewhere. have you done the drop resistor mode? is it flashing all the time/ is it only on start up?

I know there is a self-diagnostic test for 3rd gens, so I'm sure there's one for 5th gens. Look in the stickies.

NO i was going pretty fast on the highway and all of a sudden it downshifted and the OD light turned on. The OD light doesnt flash all the time or when the car get started up or anything. Its just that one time today it happend. I was told that the OD sensor (whatever that is) is messed up and it wont let me go into 4th gear can someone confirm on this

drop resistor, its a performance mod that is pretty much a cheap shift kit. it's where you hook up the resistor for the tranny to a switch and you can close the circut, thus making the tranny shift a full line pressure.

I called star nissan and spoke to Hogan. For those that live in the TRi state area they know who im talking about. He said that I reached my speed limiter and that is why my car jerked like it did and my OD light came on. I was doing 130 which is our speed limit in the 2000-2001 he said. So im very very very very relieved. Now im just guessing that its the shift sileniods. The car for some reason or another is driving extra smooth??? not the same pick up in low gears but nice when i floor it. Not sure very strange. Besides that if anyone has any more opinons on whats goin on plese feel free to chime in

I have had that happen, but mine was at 144. No it wasn't on the highways. I did a top speed run on a dyno. I believe it's a tranny fail safe.

from what i know, the SE doesn't have a speed limiter... only the GXE/GLE.. i've never done 130.. i got really close once.... this is why the SE guys have gone past 130 with no probs

There is no light that comes on in my car--then again mine is a 5 speed. but at that speed that light is not a fail safe mode, but an indicator light persay. see manufactures have to have a light come on when the cut off--traction control, or anything that limits the driveability--because when you reach top speed the ecm cuts the fuel so that it can not go any faster. Like some cars have a slip light for traction control--because the traction control uses the brakes to control the system(well this si on the Nissan systems)

so that light just comes on to let people know that this is the limit for the vehicle--
