OKay, I went to my friend's shop to get my cattman Y-pipe(fed emission) installed today, and i was surprised to find out that there are so many problems associated with fitment!!!

Does any of you who has cattman Y-pipe had that problems??First of all, the front and back don't line at all and the oxygen sensor for the back pipe will rub against some kind of bracket(heat shield?)

And worst of all, it has "BEEs in the CAn" noise, I thought the issue was fixed long time ago???
Should I give it some time to break in or I should just get a refund?

Thanks
Tim

Search... I think you can safely keep the heat shield off.

As far as bees in a can.. is it possible you have a slight leak?

NO, my mechanic inspeceted everything before letting the car off the lift, and we tighted that thing so tight with the air gun, I will be surprised that it has exhaust leak!!!!

And I don't know that thing is, it's black in color and I already took off the support bracket(next to oil pan), so anyway, i am just worry that since it might rub and cut the oxygen sensor

And what's up with the fitment, the thing is totaly off(angle are way off) they dont' even line up with exhaust manifold!!

Yup, Turbo95Max and I have installed a Cattman pipe on a 4th gen and ran into fitment problems. Let's just say we "made" it fit.

Bees in the can sound is from the flex section. Check for little exhaust stains around the flex section lining. If Cattman or whomever uses a cheap flex section, you will have the bees in the can sound. I thought he fixed this by now also. It's brand new right?

Can I safely wrap the flex section with header wrap?

it is possible that you got a defective y pipe or possibly a y pipe for a 4th gen or maybe for cali instead of federal...i'd email cattman and tell them about your problems and about how you are dissatisfied

Yes, I have emailed him but haven't got his emails yet.
And I got the right pipe, cuz it says YG5-SS (sticker) on the pipe..my mechanic was so surprised that the pipe is so badly designed or manufactured..he almost didn't want to put in for me due to the angles are so off that don't even line up with exhaust manifold..I had to beg him to try to fit it on!!!

So, is wrapping the flex section a safe thing to do???

ya, Cattman had minor fitment probs on a 97 Max. Ran into more fitment probs on a 97 Max with Stillen y-pipe. If you ask me which one i prefer, definetely Cattman.

not to sound like a punk, but simply saying he tightened those exhaust bolts with an air gun shows he's not a good mechanic....

you can wrap the flex section, it should help, how is he sure there arent leaks? juss cause everything is super tight doesnt mean it doesnt leak.

NO, he tighted first with air gun settting it to 2 pounds and then 3 and 4 gradually..after that he used hands to ensure that the bolts are in place and not stripping, etc!!!

I seriously doubt that there are any leaks..i think either the pipe is defected or just plain bad designed..which i can clearly tell from the fitment issues.....

not to cocky or anything..but this guy has worked on cars for his whole life...and he has owned turbocharged M3(built himself), prelude swapped engine civic hatch back..and he worked on race cars before.

Anyway, I am beginning to think that i have a defective pipe

Thanks

Tim

Maybe it's the muffler bearings. Hey... remind me and I'll grab my camera and we can take pics... if it is visually obvious.

Mine's REALLY REALLY tight and I still have a baby baby leak.. (at least that's what I think it is) .. I get a little tiny bit of putt-putt on slower in-city driving .. with moderate/low throttle .. and also when the car is in reverse it's pretty noticable.. but overall the sound of the car is great.

The YG5 is the WRONG y-pipe!!!
No wonder you're having problems.
You need the YG4 (4th gen) Fed spec pipe...
Yes the 5th gen Fed uses the 4th gen pipe...

At least that's what mine is using...w/ no problems...
Maybe things have changed since i got mine though...
