broken axle bracket

Has anyone broken an axle bracket? its on the passenger side and mounts the axle to the engine, to keep it from sagging down.

Mine broke and they said it may be because i lowered it, they have seen it before. they said it usually happens with springs and stock struts, but they havent seen it with aftermarket struts because the lower mounting holes are eliptical allowing for allignment.

it's a bracket that helps hold the passenger axle in place because that axel is super long.. it prevents flex i guess..

yeah the axle is actually two sections. one comes straight out of the trans then connects to the second which is angled down to the wheel. the bracket is at the connection of the two and has a bearing insode it.

Al

I have just broken the second axle bracket in about a year now. The first time the car had all stock suspension and now it has after market springs & struts and it is broken again. Does anyone know if this is common and any other reasons it may be breaking?

Wow...bump from hell.

Anyway. It sounds to me like the part you're referring to is the carrier bearing.

I can't see any reason for them wearing other than normal wear. Lowering the car shouldn't affect the carrier bearing at all, considering it's stuck in place. Unless you're excessively lowered.

I had my car dropped 3"+ in the front, and never had an issue with the carrier bearing. Just the main axle bearing.

the bracket is cast iron...it MUST be torqued to spec, or it will surely fail!! AND keep it clean if you live in a snowy area because of road salts.
