heard chunks fall off of car

i was driving home from the gym last night around 2:45am and im cruising 65mph in the slow lane and i hear litte debris underneath my car. Wasn't sure if something was on the road or metal pieces were falling off my car. I realized that my 4th gear and 5th gear drove like crap. I floored it at 65mph in 5th gear and usually i have pretty decent passing acceleration but not this time. Same in 4th. My idle started to bounce around 1k rpm when coasting or in nuetral. I drove it home and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear had almost zero power before 3k and when i hit 3k there would be a little hesitation and then it would zoom. I got home, jacked the car up and saw noting missing, except maybe a ground wire ripped from my catalytic converter. I looked in the engine bay and also nothing. My exhaust did smell like something was burning. I took it for another drive on the freeway and everything seems to be back to normal except for the lack of power below 2500 rpm. Anyone have any ideas?
thanks

After reading dozens of threads, you're lack of performance may be attributable to a bad MAF. But I'm not a mechanic so hopefully someone else can chime in. As far as hearing noises under the car, I don't think that's MAF related. Very odd.
