Theft Recovery 02 SE Project car for the summer

Hi Guys Just bought an 02 SE theft recovery at auction. It is a plain jane (no leather, sunroof,Bose, with high mileage (62K) but... exterior is very clean with very few (none) dings and dents ... and... well I needed some cheap reliable transportation.

Of course the #($($%*$ who stole it removed the HID lights and I am tempted to just buy some replacements at Courtesy Nissan Since I paid less then $8k for the entire car.

I also need to replace the CD player and speakers (non bose) and am just thinking to get some good stuff at Crutchfield to drop in.

Will update thread as I move forward... but since the HID lights are most expensive I am wondering if just replacing them is "worth it" or if I should convert to 2001 Headlights. (I know I will need to do some harness mods).

Or try some after market headlights.

Thanks in advance for suggestions.

CPU, good luck with the work.

If you want factory HID setups (and you are not in the NY/NJ area where they would get re-stolen), you can find them used here and there, and new you can get them cheapest from Dave Burnette (look in stickies for his phone #).

As to the radio, I suggest you go aftermarket. You can get the single-din slots from the GXE model and it will fit into your car as well...costs about 50 bucks (also from DaveB).

How pathetic that some lame theif stole the non-bose factory radio and the crappy factory speakers. Must have been desperate!

If you're worried about thieves, I wouldn't put the OEM HID's back in. Maybe put in the 20th Anniversary lights from an '01.

Flood mobile update

Hi ICE

Yes I still have the fancy 01 flood mobile (leather, bose, auto everything) with about 20K more miles on it. Runs fine, no issues except the rear ABS sensor that causes the three yellow lights in dash. (ABS,Traction control , and I forget the last one.) Need to get after that but it runs fine.

This is my third theft recovery Max (I have two other theft recovery 98s) and my sixth total maxima. (89 in driveway waiting for motivation to replace motor with blown headgasket.) Can you spare any time or motivation to work on an 89?

Bought this one direct from Copart.com... used guy from EBAYS dealer liscense. Will let you know how the deal works out.. guy seems to be very straight, and honest.. but I am going to pay Copart directly for the car and get a reciept from them. Then he does the paper work (title BS).

Good news is the bozos who stole it did not cut any/all of the wiring harnesses so replacing the missing parts is pretty easy.

You are not able to start or drive cars at the Copart auction... so..I assume the engine and tranny are ok. If I need to drop in a replacement, I will.

Any feedback on the crazy expensive headlights. See most folks do not like the EBAY cheap ones.

I'd get the 2K2 lights if you do a lot of night driving. They really make an awesome difference. 2K-2K1 lights are cheap and pretty good though.

Headlight options 2001 or Anniversery Edition?

Hi

I have decided for now to just go with the Halogen lights and use the $500 difference to buy other missing parts. Can get after market 01 headlights for $101 each (new). They indicate that the AE headlight assembly is NOT interchangeable with non AE car. Anyone know which one fits in a 2002 SE?

Thanks for the help

it will fit. you will have a small space between the headlights and the bumper, but can be filled w/some weather stripping. not too noticable.

Sounds like a good deal man, nice find. Have fun on the project. I would go with the 2k2 lights, but I'm in Oklahoma and haven't had to deal with theft. Good call on the Crutchfield stuff too, BOSE is junk except for the mids.

The $*$*#*&#&#&$%&&$ stole the NVIS

First let me apoligize, 62K miles is just a warm up for a Max.

Car now home in driveway, as received wires spliced in strange places. The Nissan Vehicle immobilizer system is missing . (In a theft recovery, why would they take that out ?).

There are also spliced wires in the Smart entrance control unit.

Hmmm... a pattern developing, NVIS missing, SECU F$($#ked with.

In fact it appears that the interface to the data link connector is also completely missing.

Hmmmm strange.. not that many wires are cut...

A challange... ... fun...

Update tommorrow better work with coffee in AM vs Beer/Wine in Pm

The physical fit is the same on all '00-01, AE or not. I can help you with the clips/wiring to put them in your '02, or with the lamps themselves!

Link to Pictures and todays update

Hi Guys

Set up car domain site so folks can see the "before" pictures. These are the same pictures posted by COPART on the WWW site used to "sell" the car.

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2046820/1

Spent about 90 minutes removing the hot wire splices and re-connecting ignition wires that had been cut. There were 3 wires completely cut, about 10 others just had some insulation stripped off so that they could "jumper em".

Hooked up battery, and it fired up, runs very nice.

Changed oil and filter, spent 3 hours on phone with different Car-part.com junkyards (excuse me recycle centers.) Have some of the interior parts on the way. Still need to locate an exact match for the rear door panels.

Got a great deal on a Pioneer MP3 player and Sirius radio interface for it on Flea-bay. 3700MP Pioneer.

Will bid on some 6.5" Infinity Component speakers later.

Still wondering debating spending $700 on some after market HID's. Again suggestions welcome.. just keep reading that the EBAY "angel eyes" put out very poor light. (see my post above, are those brand any good?)

Now that I know it will run and drive am tempted to spend the extra $$$ on the headlights (Since I needed to plan for the worst when I bought this car and the engine/tranny could have been trashed.)

Missing Rear View mirrors (interior and exterior) on the way.
After market clear side markers for front also ordered.
Found one red rear side bumper light and the AC/Heat control (manual) in yard in Roseville Ca.
They are also shipping some of the missing plastic pieces.
Also ordered the GXE double DIN to Single DIN conversion kit since radio I boughti is single DIN , and I like the 98/99 pocket with door idea I have seen others do.

All in All a good day. (When it starts and runs, thats a good day.)
