I just have a quick question about 105 octane? Will it hurt our engines? It is unleaded, but I don't know if it is safe to use. I know one of my friends uses it on his 350z and the VQ30 and the VQ35 share the same block, but is it safe? I'm rambling, I just need to know before I start selling the stuff to people.

 

as far as i know, unleaded is safe. our cars say to use unleaded only (premium)

 

ok, but I know the higher the octane, the higher the internal temp. I don't want to sell it to someone and have them sue me because they melted their internals. I'm kinda paranoid. I want to buy some and test it so I can have first hand experience with it, however, I am kinda iffy about screwin up my engine. Any one use 105 before in the max?

 

Waste of money though ..... 93 is fine for our cars, 90-91 for higher altitudes or California... So to answer your question it is safe, so start selling. The 350z has higher compression than your 2000, and SCC did a dyno comparison using 91 and 93 I believe, and saw an increase of 5-8whp on a 350z. .. Food for thought, but you don't have the 3.5L.

 

Now what about a turbocharged/ supercharged application?

 

I wouldn't know, I like my aspiration fed naturally ..

105 makes your engine run cooler, better combustion. Works great with high compression setups

 

Whenever I dyno my 03, I splash a little bit in there before ....

 

My understanding is that the higher octane helps to reduce knock and allows you to lean out the AFR some therefore you are able to produce more power

 

Honestly i've tried this application ONE time but it was the best experience ever. I filled up the tank full with 105 octane @ like $5+ per gallon.(gotta love l.a. gas prices) Anyways, point being, the engine/throttle response was AMAZING. Theres no engine lag whatsoever, the second you hit the gas the car takes off. If i could afford it, i'd use it regularly. Any comments on the pros v cons would be appreciated. I've been told it doesn't have any negative side affects(true/false?)

 

so 105 shouldn't harm an engine with stock internals?

how much hp gain do you think it would be if you had 93 octane and added 60 points (99 octane-ish) to the car? i was at autozone today and i was readin some fuel injector cleaner and found this octane booster that raised 60 points. wonderin if it was worth it or would it do more damage than good?

 

I think Import Tuner magazine talked about octane boosters, or modified magazine did. Anyways, check with them. From my understanding, octane boosters are BS. They never boost you to the numbers they claim.

 

I bet this would be great coupled with the timing advance.

 

Be careful with octane boosters. IIRC, some may have additives that aren't VQ-friendly.

Octane booster is junk. Just run 93 octane or if you want, run some 101 or 105. I don't think it is worth the extra $3/gallon, IMO.

 

isn't higher octane pointless unless you have some sort of engine management to compensate for it? whether it be stand alone or piggyback.....such as a JWT ecu or Apex-i SAFCII

so if your car has the proper equipment to fine tune the ecu....wouldn't higher octane be beneficial?

 

High Octane Fuel is better for higher compression vehicles, that is why it works so wonderfully on turbo/supercharged applications. You will not see a big difference in power if you have a lower compression engine. I don't think it is nescessarily a waste of money though. If you do any track racing, higher octane fuel is better for your vehicle, but you really do not have any need for it on the street. 101 octane is street legal so you pay taxes on it. 105 is not street legal so you don't pay any highway taxes, I know in CA the highay tax comes out to be $.364 ($.184 for CA, $.18 Fed). If you run 105 octane in your car, you spend less money and even if you drive it on the street, there is no way for a cop to know that you're running 105 octane.

You are concerned about getting sued by people who buy your gas, so you verify its harmless with various people on an internet message board?
