Flowmaster 50 Which One to Order Help!
This is a quick question. I'm going to get a Flowmaster 50 for my 02 Maxima. I can get either a single 2.5" outlet or dual 2" outlets. Does it matter? Will the dual outlets be louder? But the more important question is whether I need to order the muffler with the inlet in the center of the muffler or on an offset. This will be mating to a budget B-pipe and budget pipe back to the muffler. Here's a link to the muffler: http://www.justflowmaster.com/50Delt...n_dual_out.jpg

Right now I have an older Greddy but it has a hole in it so it has to go. The Greddy is a straight through design, it drones on the highway and it's louder then I would like overall. My catback is all rusted out and I have a Warp Y and Budget B ready to install but I want to get rid of the drone on the highway. The Flowmaster is cambered to reduce noise, the 50 series in stainless, and they have several choices of inlet and outlet sizes all for under 100.00. The 60 series is suppose to be even more quiet but it's aluminized and not stainless. I'm a little worried that these mufflers don't come with hangers - I guess I should call my shop. Any other muffler suggestions for under $150.00.

Have you ever heard a flowmaster on a V6 before. It sounds nice, but it drones too. It sounds kinda cheap when you rev it also. I had one on my camaro, I wasn't really impressed. They sound great on V8's, but V6's are kindy whiny. Also, flowmaster mufflers are still loud.

Flowmasters in general are loud. Are you going for hp with little noise, or looks with very little noise. The more chambers you get, the quieter the exhaust will be, but it becomes less effective as a performance muffler to to the build up of pressure. Straight piping is good because it has little interference with the exhaust gasses, thus allowing more exhaust to escape giving your car better performance. What other mods do you have. Exhaust is pretty weak by itself. It is really only helpful when used in combination with intake, headers, hi-flow cat, y-pipe, etc.

Ok. On the subject of single or dual. Stick with single outlet, or at the most two small pipes on the same side, eg: 2004 GTO style exhaust.

If you go to the flowmaster website you can see a cross section of their mufflers. The 40 series is a two chamber design (loud) while the 50 is 3 chambers. The SUV 50 series is suppose to be even more quiet then the standard 50's. However, the SUV mufflers do not come in stainless. Also, only a few 50 models come in stainless. I called their tech support and was told that if the product number starts with an 8 it's stainless. Here's a link to the muffler I purchased: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33636

For under a 100.00 you can't beat it with a stick. Frankenberry can keep their mufflers at 300.00 a pop. I was going to buy their B pipe and emailed them a question. I received a very vague, quick answer. When I followed up asking for clarification I never received a response. To bad because I read good things about thier B pipe. I then asked about their muffler and received an email saying that they were out of stock and when I called during business hours I received a machine. I think they have good products but their customer support is lacking. Flowmaster is a big company with tech people galore and the price is right. I already spent too much on the Y and B pipes alone.

When I get it all installed I sure will. Right now I have a stock Y, Greddy B, and Greddy cat back. It sounds nice but has a drone on the highway. I have another hole in my exhaust so now it's very loud. I wanted a chambered muffler instead of a straight through design. My Greddy is a big fart can. The Flow has a 2.5" inlet and 2.5" outlet. I bought a SS tip too.

I just wanted to add, I would try and stay away from the dual outlet flowmasters that are set up on the very end of the exhaust. They can sound funny when you rev them up. I'm speaking from V-8 experiences though. I personally love Flowmasters on V-8 cars. I have one on my Formula Firebird and I really like it, but I wish it was a hair louder. When I get my Mustang running good, I'm going to switch to Flows ASAP.
They are sound clips of a Flowmaster on a 5th gen on this site (in the stickys?)

The Flowmaster 50 in stainless with a 2/5" in/out only comes with a signle outlet so that is what I ordered it. My Greddy has a nice tone but it's a little loud on the highway do to the straight through design. I'm hoping the Flow will be louder then stock but more tame on the highway. We'll see.
