Loud noise coming from the front of the car

This weekend I started hearing a thump thump noise when I was driving. It would stop when I would hit the brakes. Could it be time for brakes or could it be something else?

is the noise coming from the wheel? is it always thumping,or only when you hit bumps? did the noise stop when you hit the brakes because the brake pads were holding the thumping part steady, or because you weren't moving anymore?

Its coming from the driverside front wheel. I even feel the thumping in the floor of the car.

Does the noise happen when you accelerate? What about when you're coasting? That has happened to me. It was my wheel bearings.

Craig - yes it happens when I accelerate. I also hear it at coasting speed.

I shouldn't need wheel bearings yet. I just bought the car in December.

you should take the wheel off and inspect things. you probably bent something hitting a pothole in the city

Instil - You are probably right with all of the potholes we have.

Thanks for the info.

the fact that it stops when you brake.....it confuses me haha. bring it somewhere to get it diagnosed, then post on here to see if its something you can easily and cheaply do yourself. thats how ive been fixing my car recently when i cant determine what the problem is

The symptoms that you have given are the same ones that I had six months ago. I couldn't believe that my wheel bearing went bad that soon. Good luck.

Loose caliper.....have you have your brakes worked on recently? Just check and make sure it's tightened.

if it was a loose caliper then it would make noise when you apply the brakes--we had someone go to Midas to get their brakes done and the customer came to the dealer for a noise(thump) when brakes applied--found that they left both bolts on the right loose and they both fell out.

I had one loose before.. the top bolt was secure and bottom wasn't... it kept banging against the rim and it stopped when the brakes was applied

get my drift?
