Brakes: Rotors and Pads Recommendations

Hi,

Its been about 4 months since I enquired about rotors and pads for my 2k2. Now the front rotors are completely warped and the sensors are beginning to make noise. The folks at NTB told me the rear rotors/pads still have some life - maybe about 5-10K left on them.

The NTB folks suggested Raybestors pads and rotors. Others on this forum have suggested Portefields, Hawks, Brembo's etc.

What seems to be the verdict so far on the Raybestos, Akebono ACT Pads etc....? Do all rotors come zinc plated to prevent rust? How essential is this?

I don't do autocross, though I enjoy spirited driving, freeways, country roads, etc.

best - Noela

i'd stay clear of the porterfield and axxis pads. i've been using them for the past 4 years, and they offer little modulation at low speeds. if you're not racing i don't think you need them. get something smoother.

rotors? well, just get brembo blanks.

Akebonos Pro act with frozen rotors get 2 thumbs up from me

- minimal dusting
- initial bite is good
- no warm up brake fade
- no squeaks

upgrade to 6th gen front rotors/calipers....warping issues will be over.

if you're staying stock brakes, go with Brembo BLANKS (not xd or slotted) and Hawk HPS....

Just installed Brembo blanks and Hwak HPS pads. I love them so far... We'll see how long they last though.

cheapo aftermarket blanks and porterfield R4S pads. i think im in love. excellent stopping power and very little dust so far. nothing like the R4 pads on my VR4.

all my cars will have porterfields when the time comes.

Bought the rotors from alex@tirerack.com and the pads from rockauto.com.

Search google for rockauto coupon codes and you wil more than likely find an additional 5% off the pads.

here's a link I posted a while back
Brake pricing info

hope that helps

I have Brembo blanks on the front and Hawk HPS pads.

Though the Hawk pads are good for braking and soft on the rotors, the brake dust is almost impossible to bear.

I have to put 2 nose masks while washing my car, the brake dust is terrible.

Axxis/PBR Ultimates dust like crazy. My wheels collect dust like it's going out of style. As soon as these pads wear out, I am switching to something else.

I've heard that Hawk HPS pads also produce lots of dust. I'll probably end up going with Raybestos pads, since I've seen a few Org members post good reviews about them. I seem to remember the auto parts idiot at Pep Boys telling me that I couldn't get a full set of Raybestos pads, because they only make fronts... or was it rears? I don't know. I think he was probably lying to me anyway.
