Engine gurus...please step in...

Before I get started, I am a Maxima fanatic...Owned a 92 FL GXE, stepped up to the 02 SE.

My question is about this engine that is in the SE-R...And I won't post the name of that car because it's not a Maxima...But I have come across a few threads where this engine was the topic of discussion. What makes that engine so different from what we 5.5 geners have??? The extra 5-10 horses (theoretical hp)???

I don't want to know about that car, I just want to find out about the engine compared to ours...I live by the motto of...if it's not a Max, it ain't ship!

same engine. I don't recall where the extra power comes from, but it is probably in the exhaust system someplace, or better-flowing headers ?

My bet would be that the secret is in the ECU. There may be something in the exhaust setup as well; but I doubt that the engine is any different internally than in the other Nissans/Infinitis.

it's the SE-R decal that gives it the edge. if not, then irish and mr. ryte would be correct.

i test drove an autotragic one when they first came out.... not nearly as much getty-up as my 2k2 max se. I wasn't too dissappointed.... i think the vq3.5 in 6th gen max and the se-r you know what lost the underated torque of our 2k2 to 2k3 maximas....

From: Auburn WA,
There was a thread about this in the all motor section and it said that there were only 2 different 3.5's. The 350, SER, G35, and 6th gen max had the higher HP and the 5.5, pathfinder, Quest, Altima hadthe lower HP. All inbetween #'s are suposed marketing techniqes. May be true may not be. Even though most these cars will have different HP because of different intakes and exhausts, But differences would be moderate.

Even though, all I have is an intake and my 6 speed has taken 2 6th gens, 2 G35's and one auto convertable 350z, All on Freeway!

I am with you. Same motor in different cars. I believe nissan is using hp as a marketing tool. I bet if anything all these cars are with 3-10 hp of each other via exhaust tuning.....
