Mine turns on and stays on if I have the max ac setting on. If at anything below, I have to turn on manually.

The cc has a feature in which it sort of "thinks" on it's own. The ac can only make the coldest air by recirculating and continously cooling the same air throughout the cabin, so when you set the a/c lever to +70% to the left, the recirc function will turn on automatically. If if is -70% to the left, it will give the driver the option of enabling the recirc.

It's basically something that they built for dummies whom would run max a/c w/o recirc and complain "Why is my cabin still so damn hot?!" In engineering it's a term we refer to as "dummy-proofing"

Do you have the auto climate control, or regular AC? I have regular AC, and if I put recirc on it stays on until I turn it off. Also, as mentioned, recirc will turn on if you put the slider all the way to the left on max AC (last 5% of slide travel).

i am kind of confused. I always use the auto feature and keep it on about 75, 76. I just get annoyed having to turn the recirc on every time.

It's normal for those with the auto climate control. I am not sure why. Maybe to help air to circulate naturally when the car is off to prevent the evaporator from mildewing?
