Ready to buy an 00 GLE....any advice?

Hey guys, just curious if there's anything in particular I should be looking for that are common problems in the 00's?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Run a Carfax on it, make sure you're getting a fair deal, let a trusted mechanic check it over, check for any obvious repainting and body work.

Lol, thanks...those are more of the obvious stuff I already knew.

Just curious if there's any particular issues the '00 had? I know it still shares the same platform, but new body style...lots of times when changes like that are made, especially in the first year, there are some issues. Anything like that, that I should know about?

Brake rotors and ignition coils come to mind.

MAF issues should only be with an intake installed right? Noticed a lot of Nissan's having that same problem (had a 03 3.5 Altima and have an 04 350Z)...

Saw the issues under the TSB for the rotors. What's up with the ignition coils?

Somebody also mentioned to me that the trannys were going bad around 100k, is this the case, or was that generally false info?

Appreciate everybodys help and quick responses!

Looking to spend around 7-8k...waiting on that killer deal

Go for SE 2k2 or 2k3 VQ35DE

I'm pretty sure you can find a better deal.....

TSB's are covered even after warranty is over right? Could you tell me more about the GLE auto tranny TSB? The one I'm looking at is a GLE with 80k miles.

That bad? 2k2 or 2k3 will be too much I think..I'm looking for not too high miles, but to spend under 10k...this is going to replace a 93 Camry as a beater/daily driver so I can keep the 350Z in the garage

TSB's are only guidelines to help Nissan techs diagnose and fix known problems. If you are still under warranty, it should be covered. If not, you will have to pay for the repair.

If you're looking for a cheap replacement of the Camry, get a 4th gen(<99), less problems than a 2k..

TXT-1, my dealer told me the same thing .... Although dealserships differ.

I would really like to have the newer body style. What if I got the car with an extended warranty that would cover things like the tranny, MAF, and coilpacks? What would your guys opinions be then?

By the time you find an extended warranty that would cover items on a car that has over 80K miles on it already, I would take that money along with the original stash and just get a more recent, lower mileage car.

It shouldn't be too much. I got a warranty on my Camry with 123,000 miles on it for $400...So figure the price of the car + $400 for the warranty. The 02's start at like 14k...well over the budget.

Depends on the exclusion list on warranties...I would check closely on electronic items like the MAF and coils and make sure the engine/drivetrain is well covered.

most tsb are covered 3yr/36k if they can duplicate the issue. the two tsb for that tranny are the solenoids and transmission control module (tcm). you can see a copy of the pdf file HERE off of studman's website.
