So here I go trying to explain this. I had a new stereo installed last week (a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X589 with Sirius to be exact). The radio is awesome, I'm in love. Anyways, I know we can't use our steering wheel controls without the aftermarket connector. BUT I also now cannot use the TRIP button to scroll through the displays, like temp, MPG, etc... The display is stuck on temp and the button just doesn't work anymore. Is this normal??? Should it still work??? Please let me know, it's driving me nuts!!

I have the same problem. You need the adapter for any of the buttons to work.

 

i think there is a wire that you can groud to get the trip button to work again not sure which one but someone on here should know...

 

Mine doesn't work either....as long as I can tell what the temp is out side I don't really care about the rest of it....

 

There are two wire harnesses on the back of your OEM radio (non-BOSE, anyway). The small one with (I think) three wires is for the steering wheel controls. If you ground the brown/white wire, your buttons should work again. If you want to use the audio buttons, you have to get a PAC SWI-X, which will work as long as you have an IR remote.
