Suspension Question: Bounce - struts or spring?
Suspension Question: Bounce - struts or spring?
Whenever the car unsettles and bounces to the point of being nearly uncrontrollable after hitting a dip or bump in the road (especially at highway speeds), is that a function of worn/underdampened shocks or soft springs?
Small bumps on the road doesn't seem to unsettle it as much but larger bumps at speed does. However, when hitting a pothole at 5mph it almost feels like there is no "shock absorption" as it hits pretty hard.
Thanks.
(p.s. Maxspeeds on 66k mi. stock struts)

Definately sounds like a blown strut...
On that note, for those with Koni Yellow's on a 2k2, can I use a blown stock strut instead of my good stock strut to install the Koni Yellows???
I realized after I purchased them that they are an insert, and I'm curious if it matters what strut you use to insert them into?
Any help would be great!

Thanks for the responses guys.
2K2SE-BLUE, IIRC, you'll just be using the housing of your OEM struts so it won't matter as the critical components are being replaced by your Koni's. You may want to verify it with someone else but this is what i understood from Koni a while back.

Definitely sounds like struts. It's their job to control and "smooth out" the spring's movement, including preventing excessive rebound/recompressing of the spring, along with providing a form of cushioning during the initial compression when you hit something--a pothole, for instance.
