brake problems

so my car, steering wheel vibrates when braking...i need some advice on what may cause the problem...is it the "wraped" rotors problem tjhat maximas have? i've changed my brakes recently, resurfaced/cut the rotors and still it vibrates/ shakes the steering wheel at higher speeds...

can feel the brakes grabing and letting go(like the rotors bent hell) at turtle speeds ( 5-15mph) its really driving me crazy...
any advice on what can i do to get rid of that problem...i`m going to get new rotors in about 2 weeks but for now i need a fix that will last for a that time....otherwise i`ll go crazy hehe

Thanks

bte its a 2003 max with 41k - brakes where done at 37k

what rotors and pads are you going with? that will have a large part of the expected life? heat and overtorqued lug nuts can also play a part in brake rotor warping. i have been through several instances of warping starting @ 8k miles. i recently went with brembo blank rotors and hawk gps pads. just so you know, cutting rotors will only increase the chance of warping due to less rotor material to deal with the same amount of heat and friction.

I used to have the same problem on factory brakes, so I replaced them with Carbotech Bobcat pads and Power Slot rotors, did the heat cycling/bedding on them and since I put about 7K miles on them, and they work good..

Brembo blanks are the way to go... I have had it for the last 20K miles and it brakes very well, no wraping -- just great rotors. My suggestion is try something other than Hawk pads since the brake dust is way too high!!!

make sure you fix it soon though. I just kept putting it off longer and longer. I braked one day coming up to a toll booth and they were so warped the steering wheel was ALL over the place. dangerous!

Brembo now makes front rotors for the 2k2/3 if you find their online catalog you will see the part number. I just order some two weeks ago, and they are brembos. Have yet to install them.

did you install them or have a shop do it? if a shop did it then they may have used anti squeal on one pad and forgotten/skipped it on the other. btw, its a 20th anniversary.

I need help and can't find a way to post a new thread. I have a 2001 I30 and I am in the middle of replacing rotors and pads on all 4 wheels. The fronts went smooth, but on the driver side back I can not compress the piston to allow enough space to reinstall the rotor and pads. I've been doing brakes myself for many years and this is the first time this occured. I use a large c-clamp, but it just won't compress with as much force as I can put on it. Does this have something to do with the emergency brake (which is disengaged)? I even tried to open the bleeder valve while compressing and still it won't compress.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

In the maxima, the rear piston needs to be turned clockwise with a special tool, you can pick one up in any autoparts store for ~ $15. it's a metal cube with diff. fitting points on six sides, find the side will fit the slot in the piston, attach it to the ratchet and turn

While I was waiting for the parts store to open, I managed to screw in the one side to the point where I could reassemble the driver's side. I started the passenger side, but can only screw in the piston a certain distance which will not allow me to fit the caliper over the rotor. I guess with the special tool, pushing and turning should do the trick?

Does that make sense? Thanks for the help.

yes, if you dont push while turning, itll just spin. you can rent the tool to do it, usually free of charge. its a bit easier than the cube thing.
