I've been noticing that at low rpm's and wiggle the steering wheel side to side or when I hit any imperfection in the road, I hear a thumping from the front of the car. I got underneath it and found that the inner cv joint on both sides felt loose "clunking". It sounds like I need to replace both joints. Both the boots look intact. I'm just concerned that there is something else going on here because no obvious cracking or leaking in the boots and the clunking is on both sides. Do I need to replace both inner cv joints or is my tranny going bad?

does this symptom caues a shudder/wobbly feeling on the highway and the sterring wheel to go left-right/left right ?? its not my brake pads or rotor, just did those, put front tires on the back, balanced all 4, car pulls to the right and the shimmy/shudder feels like it comes from the front right wheel, I also think there's that clunk from that area, car only has 54k though ...

tire wear seems fine to me , just an alignment would cause that feeling though? almost feels like that one wheel wants to shake off ???
caster not being positive enough can cause wander and instability at speed. caster isnt adjustable, however, and if it out, it means replacement of parts to get it in. caster is not a tire wearing angle.
toe however is, and causes edge wear and feathering. it can also cause similar symptoms, its as easy as making the adjustment on an alignment rack, usually. but since you have no tire wear, its probably not that.
a pull can be caused by many things, but its usually tires or alignment. and the shimmy you describe could be caused by a wheel out of balance. hard to say without more info.

what kinda info do you want : 01 gle auto tranny 54k 100% stock, has shimmy/viberation from what seems the front right wheel .. also pulls to the right. It def needs an alignment, but to me I dont think just gettin an alignment will fix this shimmy feeling, you can feel it at low speeds then on the highway its bad !! Thats why I was asking could it be a bent c/v axle maybe ???
when you balanced your tires, did you take a road force reading? how much tread left on the tires. what kind and size are the tires? if you rotate the tires from side to side, does the pull change? is the steering wheel vibration relative to wheel speed, is it 1:1 or half rate? yes, a bent cv axle might cause these symptoms, how the hell would one go about bending one.
if you wanna check them, block the wheels, jack up one front wheel only, and spin it back and forth lightly to its stops. this is kinda a judgement thing, because youll also be dealing with the normal backlash in the diff.

Tires were balanced a couple months ago, Dont know what a road force reading is, Tires are about ready to be replaced, 215/16inchers for tires, the pull doesnt change, keeps pulling to the right, and always has this shake/shimmy from the right front .. Never had an alignment done for this car, but it feels like its something more ... ???????? it starts from like 30mph up and certain days it is worse then others which is anothe thing i dont get at all ... only thing wrong with my car infact, would LOVE to get this corrected, Appericate the help so far too !!Originally Posted by BewstAdd1ct

could be in any of the suspension parts. id start wiht an alignment check, and also check with the dealer if you have an open transverse link campaign.
I've got something similar. Seems like it's only on certain roads. Not wheel balance; I've had that checked multiple times. I've also had alignment checked.
