Two exhaust options

eBay Option

Ok, tell me the following:

Which do you think will have the best horsepower?

Why do you think the eBay option is so cheap?

Which will have the best sound (I want it noticeable, but not obnox)...?

All of those suck and will give you no horsepower gains at all.
I'd suggest that you look into a new high flow intake such as Berk or FrankenCar if you are looking for horse power gains, and headers w/ high flow catalyetic converter. When it comes to exhaust systems if you want to see real gains then you need to free up the whole system from the headers to the muffler. I'm looking into freeing up my whole exhaust system by purchasing the new cattman headers when they come out, and adding a high flow catalytic converter to my frankenCar catback and Berk intake w/apexi.

^^what he said. The muffler on the maxima is one of the least restrictive exhaust parts, so NO aftermarket muffler will give you more than a couple of horsepower. The biggest restrictions on the exhaust are the y-pipe and b-pipe - I would suggest replacing those first.

IF you are just going for looks/sound, then do a muffler/catback system. IF performance is your goal though, the old rule with intake/exhaust components: "start near the engine and work your way back".....

Another thing with all those ebay mufflers: the quality sucks, and they are generally NOT true stainless steel (even if they say they are)....Go with a reputable brand for the Maxima in stainess, like Cattman or Frankencar or Mossy......

I will disagree with KCMO on one point: don't waste your money on a "high-flow" catalytic converter. The maxima's cat is already a very free-flowing component and is the LAST thing you should replace.....

I'll take that constructively, and thanks for the advice...

That's cuz if ya get a muffler or cat-back first, then add headers or a y-pipe later, ya might find that its either too loud for you or you don't like the sound. That's why it usually better to try the headers or y-pipe with the stock exhaust first so ya know what sort of rear to look for.

Injen is allright, but when it comes to intakes I think a high flow intake like the berk or FrankenCar will give you the best bang for your buck. The injen is over 250 dollars while the berk is under 200 @ $180 w/ apexi $120 w/ k&n \. The FC is $160 w/ k&n and $210 w/ apexi. All give you about the same results.

If ya get anything brand new, they usually do... even so, I'd say to use others' install write-ups, many of which are in the Stickies.
