g35 sedan muffler on a maxima?

hi i'm just curious if anyone swap their stock mufflers for a g35 sedan one? i was thinking i might be able to get it custom fitted into my 2002 maxima and maybe get a bit more sound out of it =/ i don't know...think it'll work out?

sounds like a waste of money.

Get a cattman one, which is better.

Sadly so... I'm switching my FC to a Cattman, partially because it sounds better, but also to help Irish out since he needs to replace his stocker....

I think the G coupes sound F*kin sweet! But thats just me.

If you want I'll check the G35 sedan to see how much work it would require. I cant say that I would spend the money on this over the Cattman, but Its your car.

IMHO, the G35S/X doesnt sound any different than an 02-03 Maxima and both lack the throaty exhaust note of the G35C, FX and Alti SE-R.

cattman sounding better = your opinion only and not a fact.
my opinion is the cattman is too loud. my opinion is also that the FC is 10x's quieter while still having the wider piping.

ya i love the sound of the g35c but i do like how the g35sedan muffler look and they might be more free flowing than the maxima ones?

on my previous accord v6 coupe i swapped my stock mufflers out for the acura cl type s mufflers and they did sound nicer and car felt more responsive...so i thought the g35 mufflers might do the same hah

I agree... shoulda stated that in my post...

I'll try it again.... I prefer the sound of the Cattman to the FC, even though the FC is 10x quieter.

How's that Marco?

A Greddy will give you a nice sounding muffler but a little drone on the highway. The Flowmaster 50 is a little deeper and much less money and no drone on the highway. I paid 90.00 for mine. I don't want a silent car because I'm not 80 years old and noise doesn't hurt my ears and my wife is cool. To each his own.

Though it doesn't matter much anyhow, the cattman is a true straight-through type muffler, where-as the frankencar is not, it's chambered inside. This would help keep the frankencar quiter, but not help with air flow.

I used to have a warp speed b pipe on a stock muffler. When i went over to a full cattman catback setup, i appreciated the slight difference, the pipe really didn't do much by itself. There is a slight bend in the stock bpipe, but it didn't seem to improve performance with the resonatorless warp speed pipe was changed alone. The mufflers seems to do more for performance then the b-pipes.

The exhaust piping on both is fine, yet the frankencar is a bit heavier, well it's alot heavier, probablly wil wear out stock hangers much quicker.

Now after all that said, for performance i'd stick with the cattman setup.
Yet, not kidding myself, the performance improvements aren't that big
anyways.

The G Sedan although it doesnt sound as "growlly" as the G35C or 350 it does have a deeper sound/growl than the 5.5 gen. It makes way more noise than the 5.5 gen does, they only sound similiar at full throttle.

I've seen pics of some pretty bad crimps in the stock b-pipes from 5th Gens, but I don't remember what my stock b-pipe looked like. Either way, I'd think that any mandrel bent 2.5" b-pipe would help a little over stock, all else kept constant.

Here's an article from the Motorvate website (kinda old, but it shouldn't matter) that showed some gains from a b-pipe:

I had a Greddy straight through muffler and liked it a lot. It was old and the inlet was all rusted so I decided to go with the Flowmaster 50. Anyway, the point being that this new chambered muffler breathes great and has not hurt performance at all. In fact there are dynos that prove the stock muffler will give you faster times on the track then a (forget the brand) straight through muffler design. I would say that the stock muffler will not hurt performance. Aftermarket chambered mufflers usually flow flow better then stock will not hurt performance at all.

ok here's kind of an update...i found someone selling g35 sedan muffler around my area and i'm gonna sell my ipod nano to buy it haha well just got a quick question. i noticed that our 5.5gen mufflers are pretty big compared to the g35 sedan ones...will that give it a bit more sound on the maxi? also, the g35 muffler also have that variable valve thing in the muffler like ours so hope it won't affect the power and stuff =/ i hope this mod can give my car a bit more aggressive stock sound

Sounded really throaty and aggresive.

sorry to thread jack but i still can't post own thread or pm anyone????? I'm not as concerned about performance as i am sound, and need to replace my stock muffler and immediate pipe attached to it as they have rusted out due to a flood 2 yrs ago. no rear muffler is being used right now and while sound is sloppy and loud when i gas it i like my 2k with sound. i had mustangs w/ flowmasters for yrs prior to max and now realize how much i've missed sound since owning max. So is cattman or frank closer to Deep throaty sound, and where can i find these to buy and will it pass inspection? Also will fit in stillen rear outlet? thanks to anyone who can help
p.s pm me if you can and why can't i post thread? how long before i can? best site i've ever come accross bar none!!!!

Not sure if you guys have noticed, but the muffler on the G35 sedan is on the driver's side. Good luck getting it to work.

Actually, it WILL fit, but you will have to have the pipe cut, and another bent to fit.

However.....the sound that the G35s make has NOTHING to do with the muffler and EVERYTHING to do with the near equal length manifold/downpipe it has. If you want the G35 sound, invest in a set of headers and leave your stock muffler on. I guarantee you, that is what you are looking for (I had that setup for a while)
