Dangit! i got it out of the oven fine now but how the heck do you get the lens off? it has a billion little tab things all around...should this be easy? because i think the sealant is soft enough now, it feels really mushy...anybody have any ideas??

alright, wtf....i seriously dont understand how yall do this...i baked it for another 15 minutes and the sealant is so soft that i can mold it with just my finger..i just cant get the damn lens to budge from the housing!! I tried screw drivers, i tried going at it from both the bottom and the top, and still absolutely no luck! ugh..if i did all this and bought a dremel today for nothing i'm going to be really pissed....any tips, please??

EDIT: i forgot to mention that i took off three screws as well that were in miscellaneous locations around the housing and each of them had a bit of sealant on them, so i'm sure that at least had something to do with the difficulty getting it off, but it still wont BUDGE...i mean not in the least bit, i cant even get one of the tabs loose or anything....

Dude you gotta pull on it pretty hard cause even though the glue is soft its still sticky, i put the end that has the turn signals in my lap, put towel in lap first, and then one hand holding the lens with towel with other i used screw dive to move it open a little bit just so you can grab it with your hand and then hold the clear piece firmly and pull, if you hear cracking stop or proceed very slowly its kind of hard

edit: you gotta pry where the sealant is with a screw driver, you can see the tabs that connect the two pieces together and then do as stated above oh yeah and

TAKE YOUR TIME goodluck

Final Solution = call some one you know who has done this so they can help you out, i did this myself and i took 3-4 hours a headlight thats cause i was doing angel eyes also

so did you just go at each of the tabs one by one with a screw driver? because when i tried using the screwdriver to loosen a couple of the tabs, the plastic began to bend a little bit which made me nervous so i stopped...how long did you bake yours for and at what temp? i've done it at 210 for 15 minutes twice now, and i still cant get it off....did you also remove those three small screws around the outside of the housing?

Yeah thats how you do it, dont worry tabs shouldnt brake as soon as you get part of it apart pull on it with hands, try pushing the screw driver between the two pieces and try seperateing them apart gently, DONT GET THE SEALANT ON HEADLIGHT, its a bissh to take off, use a little muscle

you have to barely stick a screwdriver between the lens and the housing, and slowly pry all the way around each of the little tabs. Once all the tabs are "unhooked" or whatever, it will still be sticky somewhat, but just pull them apart. Be careful not to crack any plastic, but getting the tabs apart is all you really have to do.

when I pulled my lense it was quite easy, I just used a flat screwdriver and pryed all the corners until it was far enough away that it was easy to pull with my hands. After the first light is done the second light is a cakewalk

I did this also.
Was scared on the first one. Put on a cookie sheet. No towel.
I put on a pair of leather gloves and a towel on my lap.
About 18 minutes, used a putty knife to spread in apart.
A screwdriver to lift tabs.
You have to remove the 3 screws from the back.
They look great.

Take your time. After I made my changes, returned to oven to soften glue.
Make sure all tabs lock the cover back in. Used NO sealent.
No leaks. Good luck.

YES! i got the lens off! now i just have to wait for my stupid dremel to charge cuz like an idiot, i didn't do it before....

anyway, i started it from the top rather than the bottom, because it was much easier to wedge something in up there...i used a really flat and wide screwdriver at first, then i wedged two other screw drivers in where the tabs are so that i could pull it some...after that i got the top loose, but not loose enough to pull the entire thing off...i then put it back in the oven for another five minutes on it's face (the clear part of the housing) so that the bottom half sealant would soften more, and after i did this, it was all a matter of pulling...that sealant really stretches though and it took quite a while of pulling and rotating the housing to finally get the lens off! now i just have to do the other...

EDIT: after this i'm going to be making an extremely detailed how-to for this which will hopefully help people in the future to not get nearly as confused and stuck as i was....

if you're going through the trouble to open them up, i would clear the turn signal out....that is the easy part...it only costs $10 too....dremeling out the new clear lens is definitely nothing, and i've never even used a dremel before...i'd say go for it, but if you like the amber lens in there, then just leave it...

just out of curiosity, where in baton rouge do you live? closer to the east or west side?

Extreme south eastern side. I live right of off I-10 at the Highland Rd. exit. It is only about 50 minutes from N.O.

I left the turn signal empty and put in a chrome bulb (blinks amber). I think that looks very nice.

The screws somewhat hold the lens to the housing. Post pix when your done here. Don't make another thread.

Please do.....I will be installing dde's and clearing the corners next weekend.
I have housecor's instructions, but the more info the better. Post pics too if you can. I don't know of anyone over here who's done them, so it's all on me. Thanks

housecor's instructions were very helpful, but it left out just a few small things and i'm sure that if i would have known everything before hand, this experiance would have been much easier! I'll post back when i'm done with the write-up

alright everyone, the writing part of the how-to is done now. It's on page 5 of my cardomain, or just click this link : http://www.cardomain.com/ride/695690/5

I can't get the pics up yet, becuase sprint's stupid website isn't working right now, so i can't access my pictures online yet (i took the pictures with my camera phone, which was the only thing i had.)...hopefully i will be able to some time later tonight or tomorrow.

EDIT: btw, i pretty much wrote a novel on this, so if you don't feel like reading, i wouldn't even bother clicking the link for now

Two questions...what does "clearing the headlights" accomplish exactly, and is baking the headlights necessary to do the angel eyes mod?

'clearing the headlights' means clearing out the amber blinker lens, which IMO makes the car look totally different and much better...it's perfectly legal so long as you have an amber bulb in there (i'm getting the chromed amber bulb from www.autolumination.com )

and yes, you have to bake them to do this, and to install DDEs...

EDIT: or just do what polak said in the next post

It means taking out that orange monstrocity that nissan puts in its headlights.

Baking is not necessary. I used a hairdryer to take it appart.
