Nismo CAI

I was wondering if anyone knows if the NISMO CAI will fit the 5.5gen. Just read a write up on nissanperformancemag.com they got 12whp on the altima se-r. Also read in the 6th gen forums they are able to use it, bolts right in. Just curious.

1. 12whp is

2. When you buy Nismo, you're paying for a name, not necessarily quality

3. Get a Berk or Frankencar...they bolt up directly, have a proven track record of quality, etc.

Nismo sucks.

here is the link http://nissanperformancemag.com/august05/nismo_intake/

they also have a review of the "performance" radiator, oil, and fuel caps. i guess NISMO did years of research and they are designed to...keep the fluids in. what an AMAZING idea

Yeah, I know it's a badging thing, but they did dyno it which I thought was at least proof that it's making power. I do have the FC w/ Apexi, love it, but anything that can add HP can't all be bad, heh heh (no flame this newbie please ).

I "WONDER" if Nismo actually PAYS for "nissanperformancemag"....because that article sounds pretty much like a self-promoting advertisement for Nismo...

At 4800 RPM's the NISMO intake made 25.6 hp over stock and an astounding 28.11 lb ft more of torque
WHAT A LOAD OF TOTAL CRAP!!!

The fact that they call it a

Cold Air Intake
shows how much (or little) they know what they're talking about....

oh, and the radiator cap is a "functional addition"

The only functional addition is the radiator cap that operates at higher pressure then stock and effectively raises the boiling temperature of the radiator fluid
I know that I have problems constantly with my radiator cap blowing off.....

I also like their scientific testing - racing huge pickup trucks

then just wait until that modified F250 Turbo-diesel tries to cut you off only to find they don't have the grunt to pass your "family sedan." At 5000 RPM's the full sound of the intake kicks in at WOT and was loud enough to hear over the diesel's 4" exhaust. The driver of the diesel had a look of a scolded Dog; it was a good moment to savor.
"your altima will smoke an F250TD, so you are just a bad-***"

you will not gain any power over your frankencar....don't waste your money. Dyno sheets are proof of nothing....I can easily photoshop a dyno sheet to say anthing I want it to say...

...coming soon, the 600whp/750tq maxima (mine) with only a ypipe and intake....

I knew there was some company out there to help with all my leaking fluids. How much power do these add? Ive heard about 20whp

Nissanperformancemag is suppose to be a pretty creditable source. I would like to see users dyno before and after this before I believe them. But you are hating on this way too much. It's not a fake dyno graph like the one CustomMaxima has for the Jet Chip.

And just to note, those radiator caps really do work...

Well, explain to me how the Nismo intake - which, like all other "warm air intakes" is just a piece of pipe and a filter - miraculously makes 3-4 times the power of the Berk, Frankencar, and Injens, which have been proven time and time again not to dyno anywhere near what they're claiming for the Nismo intake.....

And I rarely if ever see a "bad" review of anything on that site - it's as if the manufacturers give them free parts to use, in exchange for a nice, flowery write-up...

working in the wintersports industry, it always makes me laugh how the big-name Ski magazines ("Ski", "Powder", etc) give nothing but positive write-ups to EVERYTHING they review - whereas my entire shop could tell you that alot of those skis SUCK BIG TIME......

You think if they dog Nismo or Stillen or whoever, there won't be reprecussions when it comes to advertising revenue, free parts, etc? Please.....

Oil and gas caps are for show, but a better radiator cap is a good idea if you run a boosted car. Do you think the Racing teams use stock radiator caps? Come on Josh and Jason, at least you know the rad caps do have some degree of effectiveness.....

it won't fit either way, altima and 5.5 gen design is not comatible, you can use the altima intake on a 6th gen max
only companies that made a real cold air intakes were place racing(out of business) and cattman

...um....an Altima SE-R with an intake is HARDLY a race car (or a boosted car, for that matter)......are you saying that this Altima NEEDS a Nismo radiator cap?

but how many people on here need them? 1%
all the other people get them for show...then claim they have "nismo performance parts"

interesting... they ran a heat soaked altima, the let it cool of after installing an intake and then 'ran to get their highest numbers'

boy thats a real accurate way to test.

and also, lol at the modified diesel. they really only know that he had an exhaust. there are quite a few 13 second and quicker diesels running around where im at...

oh, yeah... and really the only reason you would need a higher pressure rad cap is if you had a boiling problem to begin with...

Make sure you get the "Mazdaspeed" radiator cap for the mini-Jasonmobile

exactly.

furthermore, running a higher PSI cap than the cooling system was designed to run with can cause premature failure from overpressure in the cooling system.

That CAI looks like something AEM created. From what i recall, the bypass filter (That cone/saucer shaped thing to prevent water from coming up the intake pipe) was patented by AEM. There's a chance this is another one of NISMO's rebranding of already available parts.

i doubt AEM has a patent on anything. as much as i doubt NISMO's parts..i doubt AEM even more.
and its ok to rebrand already avaiable parts (as long as they are better) its called competition

I'm not saying it's bad, just wanted to put it out there - if it is indeed an AEM CAI, there's a good chance it's cheaper going elsewhere than buying it as a NISMO part.

A NA altima, no. I had the Nismo oil cap(for looks) on the SER and the radiator cap as well with the intent of boosting the car, didn't happen

But I do think it's a good upgrade and gives some piece of mind if your car's coolant temp gets alittle hot......

but if your coolant gets hot enough to blow the stock radiator cap then you have an overheating issue. dont cover up the problem with another cap. the stock one is designed to blow and let the pressure out when your car overheats. if you get an aftermarket cap then the pressure will get to high and...bad things happen

Not saying it isn't possible but show me a large % where this has happened...

In Short, it doesn't increase the pressure of the system under normal use, it just helps insure the coolant stays where it's supposed to. It may expose a weak hose... Which if your maintenance is up to date, then this shouldn't be a concern...

A hose gives...... same result.... Again I also would say if you are going to an aftermarket radiator with a larger cooling capacity then the new cap is a must, stock won't work.....

To Irish i know this is some bull big time but it looks like a cold air to me look at pic man, goes into fender like the placeraceing

Looks like its going to fender but i still call major major bs on that much power from just an intake, anyone got a friend with an altima se-r make him buy it. Tell him its the best thing blah blah blah and then dyno it and we'll see

I am guessing if I added that to a maxima, I would at least have 675hp at the wheels according to half of the 4th gen guys or any of the CWP.....

interesting...the article doesn't mention the cutting involved in a "true" CAI...I figured it was more of an injen-style so-called "CAI"
