Clutch slipping in 5th gen
I have about 30000 miles on my max. The clutch is slipping when I downshift and put my foot back into it. The dealer says that the clutch is a wearing part like brakepads and isn't covered under the warranty. They said the same thing about my rotors and I fought with them about it and won. I'm just wondering if they're lying agian. Anybody else had any problems with their clutch at this mileage or lower? How long should the clutch usually last?

Under "normal" driving conditions, you should get 75K+ miles on a clutch. My last Accord clutch was still good to go when I traded it in with 141K. However, in the past, I have buried a clutch in 25K miles. Lots of side steps, every shift at redline, etc. If you drive relatively normaly and only punish the clutch every now and again, I'd do everything possible to get it fixed under the warranty.
Good luck.
Good luck.
So they're talkin about how I should put in a performance clutch and clutch plate and some other stuff from Stillen. The Stillen Parts came up to like $350 and then grounding this and grinding that and labor the total was like $975. That sounds WAY too high. What's the average or what has anybody else paid for a new clutch, performance or otherwise?

I know it's not even the same class of car, but the first clutch in my old 1990 Toyota Camry was only like 30% worn at 100,000 miles. We had the tranny ripped apart then because of a bad synchronizer in 2nd gear, so we went ahead and replace the clutch then just for the hell of it since it was cheap and they already had the whole transmission ripped apart anyways.
At 200,000 miles we checked it and it was again only 30% worn after another 100,000 miles (damn that was a solid car).
Granted, most of the miles on that car were highway, but it still did a good bit of in town city driving as well, and it did get mildly abused revving the engine a bit and slipping the clutch to keep the car stationary on a slight hill (bad habit of my dad's), but even through all of that the clutch life was very good.
The Maxima is clearly a different beast than my old Camry, though, but I would think that with normal (non abusive) (that does not imply SLOW
) driving you guys should be able to get some serious mileage out of your clutches. Maybe not 100k, but definitely up there somewhere.
