Low RPM's and power

I have been experiencing some problems for awhile now with shifting and the RPM levels. When I start my car it idles at around 600-700 RPMs. If I step on the gas and get it up to 40 or so and then let go, my RPMs drop to around 500 again. I then have to give it a little gas to get it to stay at around 1200 RPMs. My shifting happens between 1000 and 2000 RPMS unless I really step on the gas. After driving it for awhile, it feels like the car is dragging.

If anyone can help me out it would be much appreciated. My car is a 99 with 70k on it. I herd about maybe cleaning out the throttle body, but I dont know.

During the winter my car died because I left the lights on and it took a few times to jump start it, I have a 2 year old optima battery and my lights dont dime or anything like that. I dont know if this has anything to do with the problem.

Why are you in the 5th Gen forum?

As to your question, what do you mean you step on the gas and get it up to 40? You get it up to 40 mph? If so are you keeping it in gear at that point and the RPMs drop to 500? How can that happen? Am I missing something?
