AT : Hard to shift from park

At times the shifter is hard to move from Park to gear. Should I be concerned, I did disconnect the shifter arm on the tranny from the shifter cable and it shift smooth across all gears.

Has the shift cable becomes loose and needs adjustment or does the shift cable need to be replaced for good?

I engage emergency brake before moving the shifter to park and move the shifter from park to gear before disengaging the emergency brake ALWAYS when the car is inclined.

On flat surfaces, I do enagage the emergency brake at times, but sometimes I forget and that is when the shifter is uptight.... In short, on flat surfaces with the emergency brake enagaged it happens seldom, but without the emergency brake it is quite common.
