starter issue, advice please

try to find the thread about weeks ago but no luck, it was all about the starter.
when the car start, it made some sound (1 sec) of you are restart the car while the engine running.

some member here said it was the starter woudn't disengage after start, is that true?
if yes how bad it will harm the engine?
is there any part of the starter need to be replace?

I had search the nissan site, there are different part like solenoid, etc, etc, etc about $50 each, could I/we replace the deffective part instead of getting the new one which cost more than 200?

thanks guys for the advice.

eventually it will cause the ring gear on the flywheel/flexplate to wear the teeth out.

you need to find out whats causing the bendix to stay engaged (if thats whats happening). do you have and know how to use a voltmeter or testlight?

Hey. Yea I made that post about the starter making odd screeching noise for a second or two after starting the car. I had it fixed by going to a mechanic and gettin a new starter. Cost me around $300 for a top of the line starter and labor. However, I understand that you don't want to spend that much money for a new starter. This isn't a huge problem just yet. But it CAN become one if you don't fix it because just as BewstAdd1ct pointed out it will mess up the teeth on the flywheel. And that will be a huge problem.

BUT, you can try to grease the starter (the part that goes in and out -- engages with the engine to start it). I remember reading on edmunds that some dude fixed this problem this way.

Hope this helps.

a test light is a low-tech voltmeter. its a lightbulb with a probe and a ground terminal. you touch the probe and the light will light to tell you youve got power.

but before you go taking **** apart...

make sure its not an external source causing the problem. take your DMM and clip to a good ground, and the solenoid wire on the starter (the smaller one). you should see battery voltage only when cranking. as soon as you let to of the key, you should have near 0 volts again. if it goes to zero and you still hear the noise, and can verify that it IS indeed the starter, then you can try greasing/replacing/hitting with a hammer, etc...
