Loud radiator fan.

Hey guys I just wanted to know if your engine cooling fans are loud (you know the one that turns on and off periodically to maintain engine temperatures, right behind the radiator). Anyway, mine is pretty loud. It sounds like a vacuum cleaner. So I just wanted to know if there is something wrong with it.

Also, if this is abnormal, what should I do to fix it...

Thanks a lot.

I use to own a 96 maxima...the fans were alot more quieter than my current 2k2...and yes mine do sound like a vaccum cleaner....its real loud with the a/c on....maybe 5th gen fans are alot louder than 4th gens?

anybody else who have owned both 4th gen and 5th gen can comment as well?

I noticed that my fan was pretty loud a bit ago. I was also wondering if there was anything wrong.

Might be on its way out. My radiator used to be real loud and the fan used to rattle. I replaced it and it purred. Might wanna think about replacing it before it seizes on you.

I have the same problem. When the outside temperature is high and the A/C is running, the fan gets to the fastest speed (i think) and i feel the fans vibrating which sounds like a oscillating growl (on and off). May be the dan bearings are going bad. Is there a way to just replace the bearings instead of the whole fan assemnly (i think the assembly runs about $170).

Do you guys think this is something that should be replaced under the Gold Preferred Extended Warranty?

My fan used to run very quiet and now all of sudden it sounds like a vacuum cleaner too. Must be something like a bearing going bad.

Hmm, thanks for this info. I will get my mechanic to look at it.

I have similar issues on my 5th generation. I have noticed it getting a lot louder over the last few months and recently discovered when i have the a/c on the radiator rattles to the point of a violent shake. There also seems to be a small leak around the radiator cap..anything i can do besides replacement? Can a radiator become "loose"?

MIne is pretty quiet. Even sitting with the air on waiting for my daughter to get out of school. My fans where replace last year under warranty. Or least thats what the receipts say. I'd say they might be going bad.

I been noticing my fan does sound like a vacuum cleaner. I never really noticed it until this summer. I guess I should start looking into a new fan.

Mine did the same thing last week and then I noticed the temp going up. One of the fans stopped working so now its parked until I can decide on a fan. Anyone have opinions on which way to go? I see they range from $60 on eBay to $350 at the dealer.

Buy the entire fan assembly with shroud. It will save you a lot of work plus the other fan will probably die soon. I bought mine from Amazon for under $100 shipped.
