Yep. That could cause it. I have the same thing now almost continously because I need to replace my gas cap. It's fouled up for some reason.

Happened to my friend's Jeep. Make sure you tighten the cap until it clicks. And I hope you were joking about the cap---->

If you don't tighten it all the way, you can get a "major evap air leak" code.

Don't replace it, tighten it.

What kind of shows are you entering? I wouldn't think that a gas cap would be the mod that puts you "over the top" unless, of course, you're competing against a bunch of 16 year olds in civics.

i had the same prob with mine. i took the cap, and wiped it with dry rag, then slighty wet the rubber seal with tire wet. screw on until it clix once or twice. i had to make 4 or 5 separte trips, with turning my car on and off untill the cel went away. i now tighten the cap till it clix, and never had the problem since.

In Jersey, we can't pump our own gas and it's always a pain in the butt when the attendant screws the cap on and tightens to only one click. I have to get out and pop the gas cover, and tighten for a few more clicks.

Got any pics? Is is the whole gas door & assembly or just the cap that says Nismo on it? I'm just curious to see how it looks.

My 2003 will reset itself pretty quickly after a loose gas cap. My mom's 2001 takes about a tank befor it resets.

Simple problem, but a PITA.

In some states the legislature has passed laws saying you can't pump your gas. Its weird if you ask me, I think it is to try and cut back on stealing gas or something.

Yup, Oregon and New Jersey are the only two states that don't allow you to pump your own gas. It's pretty convenient when it's really hot or really cold but if I had the choice, I'd rather pump the gas myself.

The People's Republic of Oregon is like that also. It's a $500 fine if a gas station allows a customer to pump gas themselves.

Yeah, and not have to wait 5 minutes for them to start pumping and another 5-10 minutes for them to return to hang up the hose. Getting gas in OR can be a 15-20min ordeal.

What also makes it annoying is when you forget to tell them to put prem. in it and the professional gas pumper doesn't see the label on the gas door saying "premium fuel recommended."

BMWs will set the Check Engine light and it will not reset itself. You have to pay for the codes to be pulled and cleared if you are sure its the gas cap. However the new ones now have a check gas cap light to solve this problem

I had a problem like that, thought it was my gas cap cuz after i fixed it it went away. but a few days later it came back.. did this a few times b4 having it checked out. turns out it was a bad o2 sensor. Go to autozone, they give complimentary code checks and can look it up inside to see what ur car is cryin about. hope this helps....
