Is selling a car with O2 sim legal?

I have a O2 sim wired to get rid of the P0420 code, if the buyer notices this after they bought the car will i get into trouble?

Why not just let the buyer know upfront. AS-IS may save your *** legally. But you could just make somebody very, very mad. Who wants that problem.....

What is this O2 sim and how do I get one and install it. I have the same problem - P0420 which is due to the ECM needing the upgrade which I never got before the 80K for free so now inorder for me to get it I'd have to pay like a $250 ECU upgrade charge.

www.o2simulator.com

$30 bucks for a dual band....most people use this one since they are cali spec (4 o2 sensors).....Fed specs should only require single band....

I asked around about this and nobody really answered much. Can this help you pass inspection?

My gfs 2000 GLE is up for inspection next month and I know it will fail right now. So will it pass with this simulator? I know it will make the light go away but I dont want the ECU to show some thing to the effect of a sensor not ready or not available.

the simulator simulates the actions of secondary o2 sensors. if your GF's cel is on for an secondary o2 sensor failure that is not related to the heater then this will mask it. of course, if they see it then you will fail im sure. secondary o2 sensors do nothing more than monitor the catalysts in the exhaust.

I got this P0139 code and it is related to the heater (hooked up O2sim to the Bank1 sensor2 i.e the 3rd sensor seeing from the hood) though I did not slice the heater wire, it popped this code. I recently changed my MAF and this was logged so after changing the MAF...

Any suggestions.

if you have an aftermarket ypipe it will show up. p0140, p0138, p0139 are all the same HSO2B1 code. tells you if your precat is working properly. i think that's the right bank. i know the p420 is under 8/80 warrantee for cat converter.

love 00 max: is that the white sensor under the hood??? (3rd sensor)

Exactly, I put the O2 sim on the white sensor.

My understanding (with 87K miles) is it is time to replace all of them and get done with it -- I begining to get haunted by the inspection for DMV tags later this year, I sure its going to blow my cover and look like a fool out there with my one mode of transportation grounded.

if the code is heater related then you need a 20watt 40 Ohm resistor to mock the heater. it is mentioned in the faq on o2simulator.com

has your cat converter gone bad? if not, why is the p0420 code up, or is that just the ECM needing to be updated???

come to think of it, what's so bad about telling the truth for this one... who wants to spend hundreds at the dealership when you can do it yourself with an 02 sim for 30 bucks. tell the buyer that if they want it off, SES light will come up because it needs to be updated blah blah.

might give you better sleep at night

Her SEL is on for the P0420. So if the inspector doesnt notice the O2 simulator under the car then would it pass?

i have my SES light on and went to get it inspected. it failed when they plugged their computer to my car. but then they did the "2nd chance" which was put on a dyno type thing and put a tube up to my exhaust, and the car passed. not exactly sure what they tested, but i think it's to see if there are any bad chemicals coming through the exhaust. so you'll pass.

I had SES light on for long *** time and finally went to Autozone to get the OBDII reading.
I got PO420 and PO 430. I have to get my car inspect next month. It sounds like o2simulator is quick and cheap fix.

I have 2K, cali emission. Which o2 sensor get hook to o2simulator ? How many do i need?

I wired my O2 simulator to the engine side of the harness. Came out great. You can not even tell its there. All the conections are done under the engine cover.

Ok I am going to order it and try it. Do I need the single or dual output one?

I am going to have a mechanic put it in, it says you cant wire it to the primary o2 sensors so it should be the one before or after the cat?

Single or dual, doesnt really matter. If you are simulating two O2's than get the dual (only difference is the dual has a second signal wire spliced into the signal)

You want to simulate the secondary O2 sensor. It is the one after the cat.
Tell your mech. to make sure he doesn't cut the heater circut wires or that will set a code aswell.

Dont wire them under the car. Follow the wires back to the harness (should be in the engine bay) and tap in there. That way they are less likely to see it.

Thank you for your help, I will let my mechanic know this. I am ordering the single one, doubt another o2 sensor is bad.

I dont know how many secondary O2's you have, but even if another one goes bad, you can just splice a wire into the simulator and run both O2's
