Exhaust ideas

I purchased an Apexi N1 muffler and had my local performance exhaust shop redue the piping from the resonator back, but it sounded better and had a lower tone when i had a $50 maxspeed muffler!! I just want it to have a deep tone and perk up when i get on it. Any ideas or suggestions would be great....thanks.

Smaller resonator? I think the sound you want requires a Greddy EVO2.

Opinions of what is a nice "deep tone" is different from person to person... but this may help:

This thread is quite old.

Why do you want your Max to sound like a truck!?!? And forget the boxer rumble from a Rex, it'll never sound like one.

GAB (ghetto air box mod) and stock exhaust will give you a touch more noise but still sound good and keep ricers from reving on you. Not much to gain with a catback anyway. Headers are where the power is.

Resonated vs. no resonator is really just a matter of personal preference, with the right muffler either setup can sound very nice. I run without a resonator and I really like the way my exhaust sounds.

I had my resonator removed, and it is louder, throatier, but sadly it drones way too much for my taste. I am going back to the biggest resonator i can find. I miss the deep bass tone and sick of the droning. the sound is very unbalanced as well.

now if I didn't have a straight through muffler ( cattman ), then im sure things would be different.

What kind of y-pipe/catback setup do you have? That makes a big difference. Also if you don't have a cat it will be a lot louder as well, that is a great resonator. Aftermarket y-pipes also don't help the sound as they are not equal length between the banks.

In the coming weeks I will complete this setup: aftermarket y modified for equal-length from both banks, stock cat, 2.5" piping, 22" resonator and some kind of straight through muffler. I have the 2.5" piping, resonator, and a stock style muffler installed and it sounds stock... I think with the Y-pipe and straight muffler it will sound great.

But yea a bigger catback + long resonator + straight through muffler seems to sound OK on Maxes
