re-flash ecm, different types??

i want to try reprogramming my ecm to get all the latest updates. when i called the dealership, they said that there are different types for different service bulletins. is that correct? i thought if you reflashed with the newest version it includes all the latest parameters, etc... i didn't realize that there was a separate version for an 02 update.

02 Maxima has 3 updates (A/T w/o TCS, A/T w/ TCS, MT.)
-Usually "Lack of Power" TSB will update to new software.

03 Maxima has 2 updates (A/T, M/T)
-Same as above. ;-)

there is not a standard group of updates. there are updates that are part of certain tsbs. since it appears you have an 00, a few of them would be the maf, o2 sensors and tcm flash if you are auto. they are generally performed after the replacement of said items.

I was advised by Irish (who opinion I trust) that the dealer should NEVER have to touch the ECM. Example: I replaced my MAF sensor, Irish told me that all u need to do is disconnect my battery for a few hour, install the new MAF (updated part number...i.e. green dot) and reconnect the battery and the ECM will learn the new part. u know what, he was right. The car is faster and smother then EVER before and it keeps getting better.

i am not suggesting that irish incorrect. with the updated maf, you can just plug it up and go w/o the ecm flash. the problem is nissan released a flash for the ecu with the maf so it is changing/updating some parameters. i was just explaining the types of situation where nissan calls for an ecu flash. i have the updated maf w/o new software as well. besides, my vafc2 tells my maf what to do.

can we claim that they shouldflash it for free since it is an update for my car?
