The Tein S-tech springs are are a more aggressive drop (1.6-2.0" I believe) with a more sportier ride while the H-techs are a less aggressive drop (1.0-1.6") with a more luxurious, stock type ride. You will most likely want to change out you're struts as well. Aftermarket springs can do some severe damage to stock struts. In my opinion, you should go with the Tokico Illumina's. These seem to be the best match with either Tein set.

And yes, change your shocks/struts when you lower your car.

I know a bunch of S-Tech fanboys will flame the hell out of me for saying it, but if you want any kind of suspension travel + comfort do NOT get the S-Techs.

Get the H-techs for a better ride (and more predictable handling, IMO).

And yes, I've had both.

I have had H-Types in the box waiting and I have Illuminas currently inbound. If you are interested I will let you know how I like them if my opinion would help.
I should have them on maybe Sunday.

Its known as an "opinion"... you have yours and others have theirs... some people like Teins and some people like H&Rs.

Do we have any quantitative evidence as to which springs are "better"?

I like my progress, but would like a lower drop. I'll probably go with S-techs. I guess that makes the S-techs better.

Exactly... I have Progress springs, so they are "better" as well.

But Watson!! What if you have 2 S-techs in the front, and 2 Progress in the rear? Which one would be better?!?!

I don't think you can mess with spring like that. The car will, probably, be very unbalanced
