I bought some Mobil 1 Synthetic oil last week, took the case to the mechanic so he could do the oil change. after he was done, i went back to my car and saw one last bottle of oil left.

It looks like the moron mechanic put 5 quarts of oil in the car, so the oil goes way past the dipstick!!

How much oil does this car use? Will it damage my engine? Should I take it back, and have him fix it?

Ummmm,

I put about 3 1/2 in mine with filter chg. It says in the manual! I know the stick can be hard to read with all those bends.. but still what a dumb@ss. I havent seen a car take 5 qts of oil in a long time (old V8).

Man, Mobile1 sets me back about 4.25 a quart... what a waste.

I'm not sure about damage..But I would drain some out if it were my car..

btw, unless you are in some huge hurry, the max is the easiest car to change the oil and filter on. you do not have to get under the car even! its VERY VERY easy.

Your story and others is why I do my own now... and I'm pretty lazy when it comes to this stuff. Not worth the damage.

Count yourself lucky, my friend went to JiffyLube and only got 1.5 qts put back in. yeah! 1.5. he drove on it too. they claimed that the car burned it in one day... a 1yr old Mazda 626. no way. he even took it in and had it checked, it burns no oil or leaks. they still wouldnt take responsibility. Luckily no damage that he can tell.... YET!

Oil capacity with filter is US 4 1/4 qts. or IMP 3 1/2 qts. on page 10-2 of the owners manual.

I have heard too many stories about places like jiffy lube screwing up to ever use one of those places. I enjoy doing mine myself...it is a good stress reliever after a busy day at work.

Check at your local Target store, I just got Mobil1 for $2.97 a quart.

I talked with the service manager on this and this is the deal. The factory puts 4.25 qts in a dry engine. Then the idiots rounded it up to 4.5 qts in the owners manual.
I find that with a filter change using mobil 1 that 4 quarts
works just fine and shows 1/32" below the top full line on the dip stick. So I don't worry about fractions of quarts at the price of Mobil 1.
You should get the extra quart out. I may cause foming in the engine/crank case and effect the oil pumps performance.
Pull the plug and wait about 15 seconds and re-install the plug. Check the level, you should be close.

yeah, i'm putting on some old clothes now, and i'll see if I could do this by myself. Thanks for the advice everyone! However, it still bugs me that I had to pay someone to screw up my car, when I could have done it for free!

TimW, we will see shortly how mechanically capable i am. If it's as easy as you say, i wouldn't mind changing the oil myself.
